I have a 1994 C36. First the windows (all 4), the sunroof and the power seats all quit, together.

A few days later the interior lights got a mind of their own, and when they came on the hazards would flash at the same time. This happens while the engine is running. They do not respond to the switch, however. Sometimes they stay on after the doors are closed.

I have noticed that when the alarm beeps 3 times while locking the car, then there are hazards and interior light problems. When it beeps twice, all is ok.

And now the main lights and fogs have stopped working...

The locking works, but sometimes after locking the car (with 3 beeps), the alarm goes off by itself. The mirrors, wipers and the rear window defrost work. The car starts and runs fine.

The fuses are ok. Some days ago the electric fans had quit and we pulled the fan relays and cleaned them out - the fans became ok. At that time, we sprayed the relay box with contact cleaner but we didn't touch any other relay. Could the spray have damaged something? The problems started the very next day and got worse over 2 weeks.

Please contribute your experience - I have read the whole forum but while there are many guys who have electrics issues, no 2 problems (or solutions) seem to be the same. I don't want to hand the car over to the dealer like this. Any suggestions would be extremely welcome!

My 1999 C280 has recently started nearly the same thing. Interior lights come on, and flashers flash. Happens at different times. 2:00 AM Thursday morning, then again Thursday afternoon. I may look at the wiring diagrams during the Holiday break next week. If I figure anything out, I'll post here.

All problems solved

2 parts were changed - comfort control module part number 2028200926 and the rotary light switch (main switch in the dash).

Everything is ok. Somewhat magical and eerie.

I would like to add that the dealer quoted 25000 Thb ($900 US) for the module and 5000 Thb ($170 US) for the switch, but the car parts market in Bangkok had them for 12500 Thb - half price - and 1800 Thb.
