As I recall the W212 steering damper runs horizontal to the grill across the front of the car. You have to get under it and it should be readily visible.

I am going to ask a really dumb ass question.
Is it possible that the lane keeping assist camera is loose and when you brake it moves left or right and shakes the steering wheel?
A bit out of the box but not impossible.
The shaker is in a cross arm of the steering wheel and easily accessible.
Disconnecting it would tell you pretty quick I am thinking.
My thoughts of course assume it is not a huge vibration similar to one you would get with a warped rotor.

Lane keeping camera? I dont have such feature although I wished I did. I dont even have friggin power fold side mirrors...grrrrrr!

Are you sure?

Page 250 of the manual speaks to Lane Keeping Assist and page 253 speaks to Mirror folding.
There is a lot under convenience etc., the Assist section etc.
To access push the scroll button on the left pad of the steering wheel on the right side and different window will appear.
My 2014 SLK has all the same features and then some of my 2011 W212.
Check the manual would be my advice or ask a friend.

Have you ever figured out what the issue was? My 2011 E350 4Matic is doing the same. I replaced tires, factory rotors and pads.
