my car started making a loud rattle noise and it turned out to be the heat shield over the exhaust mid way of the car I think over the catlytic converter. I ended up taking it off because it could no longer stay on properly.the heat shield is about 2 feet long. Is this safe? will my car blow up or melt down if I dont have this on? thanks.[?]

I think everyone who's car is 4yrs. or older has had this happen! Don't panic. The car won't blow up but you should get it replaced eventually. The sheild, not the car!!!
I really wouldn't worry about it!

Its fine. The stupid things fall off eventually. The inspection people don't even notice it. Just don't park on high grass in the dry season ;)

Ditto. If it was REALLY that important, the manufacturers would use better material and better construction so it won't fall off.
