While under the car trying to separate center resonator pipes from the cat, I noticed this rod about 1-1.5 ft going from a bracket above transmission pan to some lever kind of bracket coming thru the bottom of car. What is it? (See pics 1-3). It feels loose at both ends and can't seem to think it sould be fitted so loosely. Has something come loose here?

Can someone identify this piece please?

Also what are the two connector/sensors on pics 4 (transmission pan drivers side) and the yellow connector on pic 5 (trans pan the passenger side)? I see a vacuum hose connected on this and one open -- is this supposed to be?

Thanks again guys. I seem to be getting to know this car but finding new challenges every day.

I just was searching thru epc...
Is the rod in pics 1-3, the shifting rod? It's held by two retaining clips and the whole thing moves very loosely from side to side... Is this bad? The retaining clips seems easy to come off too...
Could someone explain to me this set up and how it works. I'm worried this thing coming off while driving. My gear shifter has not been smooth lately. Any relation? Is this the reason?
Thanks.

Red one is pressure modulator, affecting your gear shifting quality, which there is a white vaccuum hose connecting to the intake manifold.

Yellow one is control pressure valve, which there is a cable connecting to your throtle linkage, controlling your gear change.

BTW, your two bushes are gone, replace them will definitely feel better when you shift your gear rod. (Buy Green/not White Bush in W210 with 722.5). You could find a link in W210 DIY.

Pic #5 the small nipple is where a vac line used to be attached. It was for 2-3 upshift delay (quicker cat warmup, smog stuff), I've deleted mine, much happier without it. Only thing if it wasn't capped at the other end you'll have a vac leak, but only when the car is moving 6-30mph and coolant temp <50deg C. Ref. DIY thread, online manual, 104 eng, intro to 1992 model yr, pg 51. Use ref to locate other end.

Thanks.

So can I assume that I would recognize if pressure modulator or the pressure valve is gone? Do these fail at a certain mileage or so? Car has about 175K miles. Don't want to mess w/ them at this point, if I can.

Yeah will get the bushings for both sides of the rod. Also read there is couple of bushes inside the gear shifter console that I will order and get to them at some point.
