ok , im really frustrated now, i cant seem to get the gear box out anywhich way i pull or try, i cant seem to access the bolts down at the bottom of the box, not sure if thats what im supposed to go after. the 2 on the left side are totally hidden because of the big black plastic that runs along the side of the console,

im so lost

You need to get the top of the gear box off - the part that has the PRND... There should be 4 tabs on the sides that when pushed in will allow the top plastic part off. ove it up and rotate around the rod and you can access the parts inside. If memory serves, there are a few parts under the PRND piece that need to come out also.

those 2 screws i see in the pic, i removed them, but that didnt do anything, there are 2 brackets that those scewes went thru but i coundlnt get them out.

The procedure that Twalton describes is correct.

As far as that switch is concerned, I did not recognize it (my car is a 1990 SEC). Sorry.

Hey vdub,

How have you made out with your shifter replacement? Still having problems removing the top of the gearbox?
