Just got a call from the dealer 5 min ago telling me that there are no alternators available nationwide and that the part is in back order! True? Please help, I have a hard time believe that!

Bet you if you called around to the Philadelphia area dealers you would find one. These dealers in small markets like the Allentown/Reading areas do not keep a large inventory of parts. Perhaps they are on back order nationally but one should be able to be found in a dealer's stock

Yes, found 1 in Boston, 1 in Princeton and 1 in Bridgewater. The dealer is also telling me that they found one at half price that matches all specs...let's wait and see

At least another with the chevy impala rental...
I miss the ml!

Good news, Dealer picked up rental bill for the 2.5 days. Installed a BOSH alternator with exact specs for 397.00 (part only). Original quote was $825 for refurb alternator +$160 Battery + i 1 day rental $45.
now $780 for everything! Pretty good.

Remember now that if you need an alt. get the bosh!
it is about 1/2 the price!

Good Day!

Rental?? They did not give you a free MB loaner?? Thats typical of the small town minds. Years ago when I lived in Reading for a short time I used to take my Benz to a Phila dealer as I could not put up with the BS from the dealer in Reading (1974 450SL). I also bought it in Phila as when I walked into the Reading showroom with jeans on I couldn't get anyone to talk to me.
