Hi guys,
Im from Indonesia..
i'm new to w210..... having previously owned several w124 & w123
here's the deal
i just purchased a 1997 w210 e230 with 722.6 tranny
when i first got the car, tranny was acting weird, sometimes when its in drive, it would go to neutral by itself (shfiter still in D).... i have to put it in P and then back to D, then it would engage properly. but it would then be stuck in limp home mode. This happened everyday especially in the morning (oil cold maybe ??).
to get out of limp home mode, i would have to turn off the ignition and restart the car. Then everything went back to normal for the rest of the day.
First thing i did is an oil & filter change using MB transmission oil.... even after that car was still behaving like that.
So after that took it to a mechanic who had a spesial dipstick tool for 722.6, apparently oil level was way below the minimum, so put in another liter of ATF and he reset the codes.
after this shifting was so much better, car NEVER slipped into neutral when in drive, but it would still go into limp home mode especially when cold in the morning. after turning ignition off and restart, tranny would shift smoothly, through out the rest of the day, no rough shift, no slipping, nothing.
my question is why does this happend only in the morning or when cold ??
another thing is if tranny does have a problem then how come after turning off the ignition and restarting the car problem never come up again.. ??
so everyday i have to live with that, every morning i go to work, after approx a short drive, car always go to limp home mode and i have to restart the ignition to get out of limp home mode..
pls help me out guys, surely this is not normal.....
i have read all the FAQs in this forum, but still cannot find out what is wrong
