The right front catalytic converter (after the exhaust manifold) of my California 1999 E320W started to make noise.... put the car on the lift and hit it hard with fist and it rattles.

I'm told that this is quite common so the bit question is...

Would there be any problems (ie. passing emission test) replacing it with a third party source like Performance Pruducts or others?

how many miles on your car. the factory warranties these for 8 yrs, 80,000 miles.

Third Party Catalytic Converter for California 1999 E320 Wagon ???

The left CAT went out at 82,000 and the dealer charged me saying it was out of warranty and they would not budge...

Now at 105,000 the right CAT is going and I would like to get the part myself, if someone can tell me which third party CAT is a good replacement, as the factory CAT does not have a long service life.
