Hi all,
First of all I am new to forums, so I hope I don't offend anyone if I don't use proper etiquette.

Now my problem is I fixed my dash pixels on my 2001 E320 tonight, plugged the dash back in started the car and tried everything out. Everything seemed to work but the (2) 2watt main bulbs and I have a check engine light on. I take the dash out to check the bulbs, (have to get bulbs tomorrow) I plug the dash back in and now the car won't start.... It tries to turn over then stops with CEL still on. I am lost at this time and need any help I can get.

The car is a 2001 E320 4Matic with 75000 mi. 2 owner very clean with good records. I just got this car for my wife and need her to have a dependable car, we both want to like the car. I just hope it doesn't run into a lot of repairs. On another topic my SRS light comes on also.

Thanks in advance for any help, daubie3

Thanks for the quick reply. I did have the battery connected, but I kept the key OUT and the drivers door shut while I was working on it. If I disconnect the battery will I have to reset the radio and some other things. It started fine 2 times before the last time...???... I am in central Indiana

Yes, the SRS light was on before but not the CEL. What is a REBOOT? Is it the battery disconnect then brake pedal thing?
Thanks

OK, First I ran an OBD II scanner and it found no codes, (now that I think of it I think the CEL stays on in position 2 untill the engine starts, is why I see the CEL on.) then I disconnected the battery for a few min and pressed the brake pedal for a min or two then reconnected the battery and still no start........ It tries to start for a second but then stops turning over, all most like its a security problem. Everything else on the car seems to work fine, just won't start. I don't know what to try next...any ideas????

GOOD NEWS!!!!
Turns out that the "no start" was caused by a low battery! Who knew?
I called a local Import Service shop that works on a lot of MB's and when I told him what was going on, he said 'I think all you have wrong is a low battery'.
When I got home today I put it on the charger and it was pulling 20+ amps for a while! I waited 10 mins then cranked it over and........ VROOOM..... IT'S ALIVE!

Sometimes we overlook whats right in front of us.

I found out that the battery in the car had never been replaced, it's going on 8 years old! So I called around and priced batteries and was surprised to find my local MB Dealer had the best price and it is just like the one that came in the car.

I am still getting the SRS light comming on so I will go to the area that talks about that problem.

Thanks to gregs210 for your help.

The battery was $135.00 + tax, carry out.
I installed it myself using the 9 volt battery trick on the the jumper lugs under the hood to keep from having to reset everything.

Yes,
You reuse the one that is on the old battery.
Don't forget to also change the VENT PLUG from the old battery to the new one.
It is on the other side of the battery from the vent hose.
