I have a MB 230 TE, 1985, 123.

It is cold i Norway: Therefore I started using anti-humidity in my petrol. But it seems like my car is getting more and more difficult to start:

It fires at first stroke, always, and then dies. Wait for 5 secs. and then it fires again, and dies. This can go on for45 minutes, and then the motor starts running... if the battery holds out...

I have now heard that the anti-humidity makes some kind of "layer" innside the fuel/ ignition system, and that therefore one should not use it. Is this so?

Please help me! - Grateful for an answer!

Yours,

Fires and dies

I've never heard of an 'anti humidity' petrol additive, so I can't help on that one, but if the engine fires and then stops it suggests a lack of fuel. The cold start injector is providing enough to get it to go, but once that is used up there's not enough to keep it running.

When mine did the same thing it was the fuel pump relay, but it could also be a blockage, as you indicate, or a dodgy fuel pump.

Anti-humidity - was fires and dies

Thank you Andrew, for your answer!

I finally got an answer from a MB workshop here in Norway:

I should not use "Anti-humidity" in my petrol, at least not many times in a row. This is because it will, after some time, become water again. So the solution for me then, is to drive my car more or less empty for petrol (to get the water out of the fuelsystem), and refuel, and not use "anti-humidity" in the petrol. Only always have the petrol-tank always filled completely up.

By the way, since Norway is cold and humid, we can buy "anti-humidity" to put in our petrol. This makes the humidity "go away" from the petrol.

I do not know the english word here. But in Norwegian its called "Kondensfjerner". Where "kondens" is "condensation", eg, for instans, dew on the grass in early morning. When night temperature now in the wintertime can be -25 celsius and morning temp is maybe +2 celsius, we get alot of condensation in the car-systems also.

Thanks again -nice car you have!
Anders ;)
