Hey guys! I did a brake job on my 87 560SEL. When I test drove it, the brakes worked good, but they squealed like crazy whenever I hit the brakes. I came home, pulled all four wheels off and sprayed the discs with anti-squeal. Now the squeal is gone, but whenever I hit the brakes, the front end shudders like crazy as if the pads are sticking to the discs. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. It didn't shudder like this before I sprayed the discs. Thanks

It's possible that when you sprayed the discs, they were still quite hot from the test drive and you may have caused some warpage. If you used aftermarket discs, that's very possible...

Not sure about what you sprayed on them, but the squeal is generally caused by high frequency vibrations transmitted through the pads and the remedy is to apply a light coat of copper anti-seize to the backing plates of the pads. You may have to remove the pads and "shave" a little material off of them and with the rotors cool, clean the surfaces of them thoroughly with brake cleaner and see if that helps. Good luck!

Why in the world would you spray the discs? You're lucky you didn't get killed. Anti-squeal compounds are applied to the back of the brake pads.

Yeah.. I figured that out by reading the back of the can. (I should have done that in the first place instead of listening to the guy at the parts store.) Then I spent all day pulling the brakes off the car, and cleaning the discs. I have no excuse for my stupidity. I'd like to say that it won't happen again, but I'm sure that I'll find a new way to be stupid tomorrow. I know, I know, Youre laughing at me, not with me, right? :thumbsup:

No use regretting. What's done is done. But it is wrong the saying, "when everything else fails, read the directions". With every product application, read the instructions first, and it will probably be done right on the first try.

Now get it fixed and enjoy your wheels. JV

Already done. The discs have never been shinier (is that a word?) Rides like silk, but still squealing now and then.. is there a stop squeal stuff that really does what it's supposed to do?

No.

There are many different brake pad compounds, some noisier than others. All are compromised to satisfy a particular marketing goal.

If you can't deal with the squeal, try a different brand pad set (of course with a 100 % money back guarantee of satisfaction!)

It's OK to make mistakes, as long as you learn from them.
