I just noticed on my 2005 SL600 that when the front windows are all the way down, they are not even.

If I measure the amount the front window sticks up over the outside door rubber trim in the down position, I find that on the driver's side, the window only sticks up 1/8 of an inch.

If I measure the passenger window in the down position I find that the window sticks up 5/16 of an inch over the outside rubber trim.

These measurements are being taken toward the middle of the window in the down position where it is at its highest point.

I would very much appreciate it if the 2005 SL600 owners would check the following:

1. In the down position, are both your front windows even or does one stick up more than the other over the outside rubber trim.

2. If they are not even, which window sticks up more.

3. And...if they are not even and you don't mind, please measure what the heights are.

Thanks for all your help. I can't imagine they are not suppose to be equal. I know there should be an adjustment for how far the window goes down but I am not sure if they are suppose to be equal and if they are, which one is wrong.

If the windows are wrong, Mercedes will have to find the adjustment screw on the regulator.

Any answers from 2005 SL500, SL55 or SL65 owners would also be very much appreciated.

Again, thanks for your help.

Hey Lovin, my car has been in storage for a couple of months but I just checked the windows out for you. My drivers side window sticks up about an eighth to a quarter inch higher than the passenger side. Seems like the oposite of yours. I think that the windows should be the same and I wonder if there is any adjustment for it. Let me know if you are successful getting an adjustment because mine will still be in storage for about two months. Oh, buy the way, my blue tooth headset works well even when the phone is in the MB cradle. I'm happy about this because when the top is down and I'm cruising along, it is easier for me to talk to people with the blue tooth headset. Much less wind noise etc.. Also I have "Voice Dial" through Cingular so that I can use either the MB hands free or the blue tooth at any time for voice commands. Just thought you might be interested in this since I believe I saw in another thread that somebody was telling somebody that the blue tooth would not work while the phone was in the MB cradle. This is clearly not true. At least on my phone, the V600, all seems to work fine.

Mark,

Glad to hear the phone is working while in the cradle. That is good news.

The windows should definetely be the same height. It has something to do with the regulator which is what the window travels on.

As far as I can tell the correct height is the higher one which should be around 5/16 of an inch over the outside rubber at the highest point.

There are several adjustments on the regulator that are pointed out in the manuals but not this one.

Believe it or not, I had this problem about 16 years ago on an S class. It took hours to find the adjustment screw on the regulator but it was there. Once we located the screw it took just a slight turn and the window was immediately adjusted to the proper height.

We will find this adjustment screw on the SL regulator and let you know where it is.

Hey Lovin, How do you know that they were misfiring? Was your car simply acting up or was it something that the command system prompted you to notice?
The car started to shake and the check engine light came on. I shut the car off and called the Dealer. He told me to let it sit for many hours and restart the car. I did restart it and it was fine but the check engine light stayed on.

Drove the car to the dealer and he checked through the computer which told him what happened. It showed a fault of misfiring pistons and it told him it was #1 and #7.

How to fix the height of the front window

Well, since my car is at the Dealer for the misfiring pistons, we looked at the window problem and have discovered what the issue is.

Unfortunately, it is just a case of sloppy assembly of the window and regulator by Mercedes. Hey, what do you want for $150,000 plus?

It is very easy to fix but does require taking off the door panel.

It has to do with where in a slot they tightened a nut when they clamped the glass to the regulator.

It is kind of lenghtly to describe yet easy to fix so if your car has this problem and you want to fix it, if your dealer does not know how, send me an e-mail and I will explain how to fix it.

Really, I think things like this should never happen. Unfortunately they do.

Last week I was at the Aston Martin dealer where my friend is the saleman there. We went through several DB9's and you should see the problems we found with those cars.

None of them are perfect. They all have problems. The trick is a good dealership to fix the problems.

Thankfully, my dealership is great.

what type of problems did the db9 have?
These are the issues we found.

1. All of the cars had a poor finish on the edge of the wood and plastic where the Navigation unit was installed. Some better than others but they all were not up to the standards of a $150,000 plus car. I would say I have never seen a Mercedes with such poor quality. They really need to fix this.

2. On 2 of the cars the rear speaker grill which is quite large and located in the middle of the back seat was installed poorly and could be noticed just by looking through the front windshield.

3. 2 of the cars had wrinkles or bubbles in the alcantara headliner or A-pillars.

4. One of the cars had a chipped ash tray cover.

Other than this, the cars looked great.

i wouldn't even expect to find these types of quality issues with ford, vw, nissan or toyota. normally these 'cheaper' cars are made to very high standards.

Hey Lovingsl600 did you fix your window differences?
While they told me they had fixed it, when I got there I found problems.

Quite frankly this has turned into a nightmare and this is really the first time the Dealer is messing up on what is a very simple task.

I wrote a nasty e-mail last night. We will see what happens on Monday.

Car is still at the Dealer becauase it is waiting for the pump from Germany to fix the misfiring pistons.

The window fix is simple. You do have to take off the door panels and you do need to make sure you measure carefully not to change the alignment of the window but other than that, the fix is quite easy.

You just need to loosen two nuts and slide the window clamp either up or down depending on your adjustment. You just have to make sure you change each equally.

Seems rather simple to me.

Thanks for asking.
