Fearing the worst, the first thing I did when I bought my '97 CL600 was to chage out the "dreaded" tee fitting on the rear of the engine. The car is 22 years old but had only 44K miles. Just out of curiosity we put the tee fitting in a vise and had at it with a large hammer. No matter how hard or where we hit it there was no damage. And yes it was plastic. I think that Mercedes changed the formula on the newer tees. HOWEVER, while the tee was OK the hoses were ready to let loose!
