1974 450SL - I've pulled the heater box & am restoring it following this amazing thread.

https://www.benzworld.org/forums/r-c107-sl-slc-class/1686228-1973-450sl-project.html starting around page 29 or so..

anyway, what are the bottom covers supposed to look like? any foam or other material inside? Is this drain tube/hole supposed to be here?

On mine there is soft foam about 10mm. I think all that foam does is stop the covers rattling. Some heater boxes don't have them - they are just fixed blanks. I don't see any useful function for them.

Also, when they come off they catch nicely on the transmission hump thereby impeding removal of the lower heater box. A PITA.
