Hello i'm a proud owner of a 2009 E550. i'm also a newbie to this forumn as well as MB cars. I have read a lot threads about modifying your headers, pipes and cold air intake. Most of the posts are from the beginning of the year or older. I was wondering if there are specific recommendations as far as the brands highly recommended for MB cars pertaining to H, P, and C A I.

Also i've read a lot of posts saying with the E550 that these mods listed will not significantly raise HP or MPG. Is this true?

Would you do all 3 of these mods, any combination, or none at all?
Note: As for the exhaust , i do not want to be loud and anoying. I would like to take advantage of possible HP gains and a little deeper sound from my V8.

I am not trying to convert my car into an AMG but would like to do some basic mods so as not to be bone stock.

Also has anyone know if i can get a hold of the the grill that is on the hood closes to the wind sheild in black? Or do i need to take it out and paint it myself?

Thanks in advance for your reponses

The factory air intake system is pretty low restriction, and pulls the air from the front (cold air) so I can't see how you could improve on that.

Kleemann does great "headers" (extractors)
which give you about a 16-20hp gain.
Brabus does nice Cat converters which make your car flow free, but are expensive
With the rest of the pipe you could either save money and go custom, or spend alot and go Kleemann, brabus, Megaflow, powerflow any of those brands.
If you want a pricing and websites for these mods just ask.

But BernardFarquart is right, the air-intake which comes stock is great,
Renntech does a few air-intake but for AMG's, not sure for e500's.

You can get matte black grilles, i'll send you a website later tonight.
But i recommend an ECU tune, it makes the car more agressive, takes the lag away and makes it very responsive, it will als give you about 15bhp.

Thanks for the replies.... I have a few questions...
Are custom pipes just as good or better than the brand name ones? What do you tell the guy that is doing the work? That you want more power and the kind of sound your looking for? What else is needed to go along with the pipes? These are the kind of things I would like to know so I feel like I'm not totally clueless, even though I am. Seems when you have work done and you know very little, shops have a tendency to try and take advantage. Trying to avoid that. Are you in so cal, if so any shop recommendations?
The ECU mod sounds interesting. Will it effect my idle or make the car run rough? Does it void any warranties? Will it pass Ca smog? If I do the ECU, will the factory deny me services?

a lot of questions, I know...
Probably will have more....
appreciate any advise

Thank you!
