I have seen various posts about replacing the head unit of the stereo system

i have the original equipment AM FM Cassette stereo that came with my 97 S class... I have been told that in order to replace the stereo all of the wiring for the speakers etc..needs to be re-done as the amp is near the trunk

Is there a way of just replacing the in dash module or is what I have heard true..

I am interested in an IPOD port and in dash cd instead of the antiquated cassette player....

I'm pretty sure you just have to buy the adapter from the mercedes plugs to the aftermarket plug. i could be wrong though

I'm fairly positive that you dont need to rewire all your speakers... that just sounds dumb

91-93 you need to carve it all out yes

after that it is a normal stereo system
are you saying that on the 91-93 models, you have to rewire all your speakers to add an aftermarket cd player?

WOW, thats a very good reason to keep your factory audio

you need to replace the amp and get the new wiring from the dash to it.

depending on the amp you select, the stock speakers may not operate properly (bose 6ohm ftl).. so kinda. depends on what you do

op has a 97, which is plug and play with the wiring harness.

i did it in about 20 minutes, and that was with pulling the hvac controls with consideration of seeing if i wanted to swap the units, and unwrapping the toolkit i bought on ebay, oh yea and also removing the stereo in my benz now from the car it was in.

i cant swap the 2. one harness for the hvac it too short. i even tried to pull it when i had the console out but there is just not enough cable unless you extend it. i might do that one day...

They told me the same thing ,all Speakers and wires need to come out to add a new radio , OF course ,they have to pay the rent for the shop ,let me guess ,did they charge you also a quote of aprox 2500 $ ? (you country less) .
Do me a favour and look at the 2 links (specialy the 1st one ) , there you find all the part numbers what to do where to get it etc etc ... .
Mine is the earlier 1993 Bose AMP so its supposed be more complicated while yours 1997bose' is easier to change over ,dont take any crap from the radio shops ,they dont know them selfs ,lol.

That's what I did with my 93! Put in a head unit with aux in and usb port! I had a cracker jack installer at Best Buy install for me and did a grat job! Only biggie was running a antenna wire to the back of the car and the hot wire to kick in the amp! Nice no clutter in the car now!!
