Apparently my chassis number and Cal born car has a hazard/flasher switch which can no longer be found. It's doing the super rapid clicking thing and I have taken it apart as far as I can get it, cleaned the contacts and still no joy.

I cannot get into the lower portion, so I cannot get at that part to fix it. Sooo

Has anyone ever tried using the the 5 pin X 3 Pin switch that apparently went into every other 450SL? And, if you have, what did you have to change to get it to work.

TIA

That looks like it--you will most likely have to pull the wood out--remove the ashtray and there will be two screws holding the wood console in place. If you want to, I would also buy the rectangular black thing that goes around the shifter hole in the console.

Yes, the black rubber trim thing. The new one I bought does not close the gap between the plastic shifter base like yours does.

Sadly, that is not the right one, however, if the price is right, I would like to get it for experimenting. Sine the proper ones are no longer available, a person is going to have to modify the units that used the one I have. Therefore, it would make a good "howto" for the archives here if I can work it out.

My 4 x 3 pin relay/switch combo broke today and is making that buzzing noise too, can't find a replacement anywhere online!
there aren't any anymore--MB has abandoned us on that one.I found a very good used one on ebay--but it required buying the whole console unit. Which would not have been bad, since it was burled and in great shape, but it was out of an SLC--if anyone needs one...

That being said, I have the one Flip sent me and the old one. I just haven't had time to figure out the pins and what the extra pins don't/do do as yet. Clearly they should be able to be made to work, or, repairable somehow. One would need a bit of filler, though, as the older ones which are abundant, are smaller.

In the mean time, mine would work once it got warm enough, so, turn it on and let it run for a while and see what happens.

Got exactly the same problem as yours, RobertinMn - very "sometimey" operation. Have cleaned contacts, tried turning it in place, everything I know. Works for a while, then stops.

i am also working on fixing this unit. i suspect a capacitor inside has gone kablooey, but i cannot figure out how to open the lower half of the unit. if i have no more ideas after a day or two i may cut holes in the plastic sides to access the face of the circuitboard.

any luck, RobertinMn?
