I was driving my 97 E420 today, i am the second and fourth owner and I remembered how much I regretted selling this car when I did.

It's now got 184000 miles on it and while it still runs great, I began to think that I would probably replace the engine and keep driving it if it ever gave out. Then I started think of options and wondered if a 5.0 engine from a W140 work?

Has anyone done this?

Hi alabbasi,

The W210 E50 has exactly that...with the exception of some AMG bits.:D So maybe shoehorning one into the 420 would almost be plug and play.

How about hopping into an E55?

Seeing your handle here makes me miss my W108s.

Best regards!

Hi, I've considered an E55 or CL55 several times, but I really like my E420. As far as moderns go, it does everything I need and allows me to use the spare cash on all my other older cars.

I'm wondering if the computers and all would plug and play.
