My left window goes up and down more slowly than my right.
I think I found the source.
Left motor - I separated the top electrical part from the bottom gear/cog part - with the lower part separated the gear can be turned by hand but with difficulty. The top electrical part has the spinning shaft which drives the plastic wheel in the lower part which as it turns, turns the gear. I presume the overall motor is under more pressure as it drives the resistant cog. It goes slowly.
Right motor - When the top electrical part is separated the gear almost spins by hand, moves freely. I presume the motor is under less pressure because there is no resistance in the cog. It goes less slowly then the left motor.

The question is, has anyone dismantled the lower part of a window motor to get in there and lubricate the internals? How is it done?

thanks for listening
Darragh

the old ones have metal housings and i have taken them apart there is a gear set inside and they are usually dry. grease will help because they did not put enough in from the begining. not sure if the plastic ones come apart without having to glue them back together

I repaired one that was split open (Plastic housing). Before gluing and reinforcing it, I pumped some grease around the gearwheels.

Rather than try to disassemble it I would be inclined to carefully drill a couple of holes, say 3mm, then use a grease-gun with a
nozzle like the type used for greasing the sprocket on a chainsaw bar.

Suggested site to drill a small hole, this would get grease onto the large white plastic gearwheel and also the onto the drive gear from the motor.

Hi,
I was reading this article-see link below. The plastic on the plastic ones is brittle unfortunately. Thank you for the reply.

Hi,
I don't think I am allowed crack the lower half open due to all the brittle plastic....
When I separate the upper from the lower half I can look down into the lower half and see the white cog that is driven by the rotating shaft of the upper half. I can look down into the lower half and spray or inject grease at the now clearly visible white cog while turning the outer gear with my hand to get the grease all over the white cog. The white cog inside turns definitely and smoothly but when I turn the outer gear by hand it feels as if the outer gear is connected too tightly to the inner cog. Your suggested drill site I think will only be a 'side door' to the cavity visible when I separate the upper and lower half. Am I wrong? I have silicone grease which I think is the appropriate stuff - I think (as you say) the grease needs to get in between where the outer gear joins to the inner white cog in case it will ease it up. I'll get a grease gun..
Thanks for the reply,
Darragh

I separated the upper and lower half of the motor. I injected a syringe of silicone grease into the lower mechanical half and it loosened the gear and it runs the same speed as the other window now. So simple really.
1mbzdoc - you were right - first day the lads at Mercedes neglected to lube the motor properly,
Thanks guys,
