If you are standing in front of the Radiator and looking down at the Balancer the Numbers to the righ of the OT are BTDC and the Numbers to the left of the OT are ATDC.

You can tell by the normal rotation of the Engine; which is clockwise.

OT is Top Dead Center on the #1 Piston.

Note: With the Drip Method of timing you use the BTDC side.

When you use the RIV type timing method or the Fuel Injection Pump Timing/Locking Pin you will be setting the timing on the ATDC side.

Have you ever used the static position indicator that plugs in to the pump? http://www.samstagsales.com/images/mbabbox4.jpg
I have never used one but it is often referred to as the AB or A and B Method.
When you use it times to 15 degrees ATDC.

The AB Light goes into the same port as the Fuel Injection Pump Timing/Locking Pin.

Also you need to make sure your Fuel Injection Pump has the Port.
Sorry I do not have any pics to show the difference in the Fuel Injection Pumps.
