I put my Hardtop on tonight for the first time. The top did not come with the car, but I bought it off of Craig's List (it was already the proper color). The gentleman that I bought it from said that he put it in his garage on the first day that he bought his SL600 new and never touched it again. And it shows, it still looks Brand New, even the headliner! When I put it on and pressed the Top Controller Button forward, the Rear Latches pulled down perfectly, but the Front Latches didn't pull down all the way. I could tell that there was a very small gap between the Hardtop & The Windshield Header. I held the button a few more times to see if it would suck down any more, but it didn't. It took the MB Hex Tool to suck it down all the way and I really had to put some muscle behind it. Does this happen often? Or could it be that it had never been used so the Rubber Seals were still like new and had not compressed?

I know that I will never use it again. Just wanted it to complete the car, and I only gave $400 for it. Just wanted to test it to make sure it fit, take a few pics, then put it in storage with the Hardtops for my Corvette & Cadillac Allante'.

When you use the hex tool ,you should hear a click when it locks, you should not have to put extreme force on the lock, the front pins on the top may need adjustment, not hard to do.

Good thing you have the storage space ! I've had a hard top for the 107 rattling around my garage and storage for 30 years. I put it on to move it outside for a major garage project. When I brought the car back in, it had melted ! The 107's leak like a screen door on a submarine :crybaby2: While having the hardtop is good, as the cars came with them, I'd NEVER use one for the reasons I've preached for years.

I own the Self Storage Facility, so that helps the whole monthly bill forever problem and I have my Hardtops in a Climate Controlled Storage unit, so the Melting Issue should be moot. I purchased a Hardtop Storage Cover for the Mercedes Top, because it is in Brand New Condition and $85 seemed like a small investment to keep it that way. I'm going to drive around this weekend with it on just to see the difference, then it will be banished into the eternal darkness of the storgae unit.
