I am trying to get my 107 stripped down to take for paint this upcoming weekend. I've been working on the hardtop for 2 days now. I'm sure I know that answer to this, but does the top have to completely dissassembled to remove the back glass?

Why remove the glass? Is there a rust issue? The SS trim is held in by clips that are riveted in the channel. To remove the glass completely I guess it would be easier to remove the interior trim. Are you going to remove the trim pieces across the top too?

I have another top that is very nice (same color too) but the back glass is broke. The headliner pieces are very nice as well. My original top needs a total resto, including all the headliner trim and paint. I was just thinking that if I could replace the back glass without disassembling the top, that would be the easier and more cost effective way to go.

Makes sense. Removal should not be too difficult on the top with bad trim. You can learn about the trim piece removal on it to avoid damaging the good one. The SS trim may be difficult on both because of the sealant. If you don't feel comfortable with it take it to a pro.

Just found a glass shop that says they can remove the old glass from my original top and install it into the new top for a $100. With the amount of time I have spent on this, $100 seems like a bargain.

I'd say you'll be ahead with the $ 100.00, especially after you break the glass, cut your finger off and head to the ER, and listening to your wife saying you should have took it to a professional for the rest of your natural life.

I'm figuring you'll save about $ 6K on the whole ordeal and you'll have all of your fingers.

When they say professional???
Have they done the 107 hard top?
