Great day! Wake up and find an email with tracking number for my euro spec headlights. Happy. Jump on ebay and find a set of painted in 040 (my color) authentic AMG rocker panels/side skirts with all hardware and an extra set of caps for under $500 on eBay. Happy dance!

Lol @high cotton comment. BAMeyer the headlights were always on the top of my list and after trying to get Xenons at a reasonable cost I gave up and went for the Euro Spec halogens. Next on the agenda was 18" staggered AMGs but when I came across these rocker panels I just had to put off the wheels. I've only seen them on Ecklers for $1100 a pair and have read somewhere that the real deal AMGs are close to $1000 each so to get both for under $500 I had to grab em'. Can't wait!

Pete, your thoughts please.

If I could get a pair of silver Sport Side Skirts how are they installed? Do you pull the old ones off and replace with the new? Or are they overlaid? Can I use the old hardware? Screws, nuts, bolts, washers, or plugs?

Thanks, Lynn

Lynn you use all the existing screws as all the holes are located in the exact same spots. iirc the are a 3 screws at the front wheel well, 2 at the rear wheel well and a few on the underneath side of the car. There is also some weather stripping that you must pull from the sill that will then expose a few screws that hold it directly underneath the polished metal sills oh and there is another screw that can only be removed with the door open near the door hinges.

I was able to calmy remove the existing skirts and wedge the sport sills into place without having to remove the metal door sill. It's time consuming but doable. If you do get the new skirts you will pretty much see where all the screws are located that hold it in place. You will also have to remove the front and rear panels the one with the vents in the front and the one directly ahead of the rear wheel. Hope that helps any other questions let me know.

BTW the sport sills will really complement you wheels.

Thanks for the quick response. Now it's a matter of weather I want to spend the money on anymore changes/upgrades. Been there. Done that. Enough already!
Haha I hear you 100%. But honestly I think the AMG Sport Package sills make the car look so much better especially when and only when you have a staggered set of wheels as it looks over the top with the standard 16" wheels. I say go for it!

Mike here is a link to the seller and a listing he currently has:

Mercedes Benz SL Class R129 1993-2001 Halogen Headlight with Flasher LEFT OEM

Price went up slightly from when I purchased them. He never has both sides listed so if you are going to purchase contact him first and explain you want one left and one right side headlight. With me he replied to purchase 2 headlights at once and then when checking out add a note to send one left and one right side. His out the door shipping wasn't as fast as I would like but he does ship it DHL Global express so once he does send them out it gets to your door rather quickly.

It also comes with both corners, identical to the 96-02 MY, at least mine did.

Check my sig line and click on the pictures link. Pictures 13-16 is during install. Pictures 1-12 are with the US Spec and pictures 17 on are all with the Euro Spec.

Alas seller doesn't ship to Australia or I would be bidding :crybaby2:
I thought you said you were finished with upgrades to your car? Please buy them because the only reason that I was considering it was because they are in my geographical area and I could stop by and pick them up. Saving another $100.00

You need to hire a middle man.

Problem is he want's $100 shipping in the US then from there to Australia would make it $$$$$ and they will probably go for a lot more than the starting bid. My guess would be that they will fetch close to $600 by the end time.

Lol! I thought I was Lynn, but you know how it goes 2 steps forward and 1 step back. These cars are more like an addiction than a means of transport. I envy you being able to pick those covers up and think you should grab them if the price is right. They would suite your later car very nicely, or if you changed your mind you could ship them to me at a small profit. :D

Lynns if you can get these for under $500 total I would go for it in a heartbeat. You could even try negotiating with the seller and suggest that he can avoid paying eBay and paypal fees which are getting ridiculous btw and simply pick them up and pay cash money.

Were you around when Tech-Tune said, "that he didn't know what he would do if he had to drive his car w/o a Sprint Booster"? I call it the 129 Forum Upgrade Craze. Been there done that but never bought a Sprint Booster because if you asked those guys what they thought about that product today you would get a different response. To each his own...

As you know the last year for a 129 with the Standard Body kit was MY00. When I bought this car I had several low mileage 129's to pick from which included one black interior silver AMG Sport package but since I had already owned a black Sport I decided I wanted a black interior silver Standard body with no front license plate and Xenon HID's. My short list of upgrades included a change out of the Grill and Trunk Handle to the polished Aluminum look from the 2002 Silver Arrow along with frosted Clear Corners, H&R Sport Springs, and AMG IV wheels, Michellin tires, ceramic pads, drilled/slotted rotors, AMG pedals, etc. BTW, you won't find another one like it.

Besides there are always going to additional costs down the road.

If you have a crack side skirts then it worth it....

Those AMG side skirts need a new paint job.... Which will cost you $$$

If you don't know how to install those side skirts it will cost you $$$.....

Having to find space for the old side skirts... If you going to sell your old side skirts it would be hard unless someone need to replace a crack one....

End up it not worth it just to change the look.... IMHO....
