This car...

Is more expensive then the SLK AMG, yet it is less powerful. Although a relatively new car to the Cadillac lineup, it uses roof technology of the older 1996 model SLK.

Best of all... the windows are glued on and fall off during roof use [:D] http://www.cadillacforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=17240

p.s. boy do those looks... make me shiver. And not in a good way [xx(]

Did you guys read the whole thread? The glass didn't fall off, it was pulled off when trying to operate the top manually.

Listen to mike. I love my SLK, but it's not like it doesn't have it's faults as we all know.

The XLR may be more $$ than an AMG SLK, but it is about $35,000+ less than the big SL. My buddy bought one about 11 months ago after he decided that he didn't want to spend more than $80,000. The XLR is incredibly roomy inside; as in people 6'4" and taller can sit comfortably in it. Someone that tall can't even fit into our SLK. I've seen them try it.

The XLR has been nothing but trouble. Sometimes the roof won't go up, and a bad solenoid is responsible for that when it occurs. Sure, they cover it with warranty, but what an endless hassle. And, everything is touch-screen in this car, not functional switches like in our SLKs. A good rainshower is probably not what the interior of a car like that needs.

Also, the XLR has some real problem with their belt and pulley system. Give this car 2/3 or more throttle, and everything squeals like an old chevy with a siezed-up air conditioning compressor. The dealer puts a new belt on, it is fine for about 2 weeks, and then the squeal is back. As in, people are looking at you like 'what the hell is wrong with your car' kind of squeal.

Engine codes are thrown every once in a while that do not seem to make much sense to the dealer as to why.

And, these are the things that i know about...who knows what else is up with it.

Yeah Tex...and really who cares? There is no perfect car. The one with the least problem in my fleet is a tie between the Tahoe and the old 442! My SLK has had some issues including top microswitches and tailights. My Caddy...another story prior to 50k but now 62k and is doing fine...great road car!
All makes have there issues and many times you can get a good one! I try to keep em when they're that way.[:)]

Hey BodyPainter....didn't your mother teach you any manners? You NEVER call someones baby ugly/fugly. I didn't make any derogatory comments to your website that you posted awhile back even though I didn't care for your gig... did I?
It's people like you that take the joy out of these forums. You need to keep your opinions to yourself unless asked. [:(!]

I think the worst problem with that Caddy is that it's fugly.
Actually i like it, it just needs a real V8 in there.

Yeah, it is fugly. You've got it right bodypainter...fugly like fredrice and his STS and....[:D]JUST KIDDING, FREDDY! DON'T FREAK OUT. IT'S A JOKE! [;)]

The XLR is very fast. If you haven't been in one with the pedal to the floor, you're missing something. I'm sure the quirks are worked out of it year-by-year, but it has a lot of quirks for such an expensive car that is typically owned by people that know nothing about cars and really have to desire to. If it were mine, I'm sure the belt squeak would be resolved by now. I just don't hear about vette guys facing the weird stuff that these XLR guys are.

My mother is dead, you insensitive clod.

As for the Caddy, I would never invade their forums to tell them their cars are fugly but that doesn't change that they are. Here in SLK-land I am not so shy. I think the Z4 is ugly too and the S2000 is boring. There, I said it! [:D]

But seriously, my comments take the joy out of reading a forum? You didn't comment on my site(s) because you didn't want to hurt my feelings? You must be new to the internet. I advise you grow a thicker skin -- it'll be very useful as you spend more time online.

Anyway, I apologize to your Cadillac. When I was talking about fugly, I meant all those other cars that belong to people who aren't reading this post and so can't be offended by my conversational style.

I like the body of the XLR, but I think the interior could use some help. Every time I see one I ooo and aaaa, but my friends don't seem to like it. They think the edges are to hard. I think its futuristic.

I'd like to see the US automakers get back on track. So far, I'm impressed with the way things are going. The 300 C looks and handles great from what the reviews are saying. Cadillac is winning races, Corvette is holding its own with the higher end sports cars and the new Mustang is really making waves in the auto market. I just with the interior plastic of the Mustang didn't have the same feel as a Playschool toy.

If a block of concrete is supposed to look fururistic, then yes, the XLR looks futuristic.

I think it's the UGLIEST convertible in the world.

No, make that one of THE ugliest cars ever.

The thing looks like a BRICK! I've seen better designs from preschoolers drawing a car. Even the interior looks cheap.

awww man. yuuuuck.

Since really this car is designed for the SL crowd, and the price reflects it abiet 15k less than a sl500, I think they look equally exciting. Which is to say they are both rather tame. I actually like the look of the inside from the images I have seen of xlr. I also think the xlr looks better in person than the pics. I give caddy credit, they have produced a car for 15,000 less than the benz, it has 20 more horsepower and gets better fuel mileage. Customers also rank it higher being satified with the car. It looks like to me it would be a comfy easy cruizer ride. The only compariable gm product for the slk I can think of thats a 2 seaters sports car is the vette. And please don't even go there comparing an slk to the vette performance wise. I test drove one about 2 wks ago, trust me not even room for discussion.

Don't get me wrong mb make nice cars but nothing that can scoff at many other manufacturers as they have found out lately. I enjoy my slk for what it is, but have no illusions what its not :)

To Painter:
Insensitive clod? It is you who makes insensitive statements. As far as your mum goes it is sad she is no longer with you as she could have used the extra time to teach you how to be more sensitve.
I guess your "conversational" style consists of just blurting out whatever runs through your sawdust filled head.
As far as cars go we all like what we like. The joy of this forum is the information one picks up from experiences and of course views that others share. You give nothing.
Should you wish to continue this simply "pm" me and we can go on. YOU will be my entertainment.[:D]

With out looking at price\features\power\reliability -I also like design of it - i like cars with designed with straight lines. I think i rather have an SL, but i still like the XLR ans STS design.
