The '07 CLS550 I purchased had absolutely no door dings even after 34K miles and I just had to add side moulding. I intentionally avoided a straight line for the moulding, instead using a curved line which I believe enhances the beautiful lines of the CLS body.

I purchased the 15/16" chrome moulding from AutoAmenity at:

Auto Body Side Trim Molding Stylish Look, Great Prices, AutoAmenity.com

BTW -- I also have completely covered the front of the car and hood myself using 12" wide rolls of 3M Clear Bra from Xpel XPEL Technologies Corp.: Paint & Headlamp Protection Material By The Foot and covered the headlights with Xpel product from AutoSport at AutoSport Catalog - X-Pel Headlight Protection 800-953-0814.

The problem with side moulding, which is the reason most cars don't have them anymore is that there is no longer a correct height.

Yours is too high I think. But the problem is that between SUV's, trucks, cars, crossovers, etc, each door contacts at a different point.

I don't think that moulding you added will provide much protection at all and it destroys the line sof the car. It doesn't follow the crease and all it does is highlights the door handles.

Personally, I'd rather park far away and I'll take my chances and repair any dings I get.

It is at the widest part of the car. I don't think any vehicles will make contact below the moulding, but I appreciate your perspective. Thanks for the rational rationale rather than the emotional knee-jerk comments by some others on various sites.

Double parking a sexy car is a nice way to encourage the jealous to add some purdy key lines to your shiny (and expensive) paint job.

Parking out is a good idea, but doubleparking has the potential of backfiring.

I just don't park my CLS in small, crowded lots.

I agree, no double parking. It definitely encourages the jealous and in this day and age, people are going to let out anger towards the more "well-off" a lot more, denoted by the Benz. The first and ONLY time I double parked was in my last car, it wasn't even the nicest car in the lot, just a fancy lifted truck with a custom paint job, well we can all guess what happened to that custom paint job.. $2800 paint job destroyed by some passing ass. I still wish to this day that I had walked out and caught him putting his key in my car, I probably wouldn't be typing this right now because I don't think they allow this much computer time in prison. :shit not:

I love double parked fancy cars when I'm driving my POS Jeep trail rig.

Gives me the chance to park right up against it with my bumper overhanging their car or my tire toutching their car or blocking the drivers door. Best when I park so freakin close to their drivers door that they have to get in on the passengers side.

Go ahead, smash one of my windows or kick in some of my sheet metal. Maybe some day I'll notice it : )

Or show you have some class and park away from the crowd.

It's not a jealousy thing.

I've jammed my H2 up against a double parked rusted out Buick Centry. Buick owner had to wait for me to leave so he could pull out.

Agreed. Double parking is rude and makes you look like a "tool" or worse. It is better suited to those who wear dark sunglasses indoors, talk on their phones in restaurants and wear Ed Hardy clothing. I have owned many cars from the inexpensive to the truly exotic and have never once felt that it entitled me to any special treatment. Grow up a little, enjoy your cars and accept that they will get dinged and scratched with time... the world has enough a$$holes as it is.

Wow, I bet you really "teach" them don't you. The fact is, there is aways someone tougher and would just assumed to beat your ass than touch your ******* rig. I know, I know, you da man... Not sure you're in a position to lecture on having class Mr. I like to pick parking lot fights. I'm sure you'll one day find the guy that doesn't give a crap about assault charges and will enjoy knocking a few of your teeth out. Double parking is rude, but it's not your job to police the world. Would you notice 4 slashed BFG's or Mickey Thompsons? Those mudders aren't cheap. Will it be worth it to make your point then? :p
