Check engine light popped on for the first time since I've had the car. What is the most common cause for this issue other than a loose fuel cap? This was the first thing I checked.

I also went to the local autozone to have them to connect a scanner to it and they gave me code 170 and 173. According to their booklet it was a faulty MAF or o2 Sensor. Much help is appreciated. I know many of you guys have there and done that, so share some of your wisdom. Thanks in advance

After reading many post I am almost sure it has to be the MAF. Yeah they seem really easy to change bro. I'm sure it will only take a few minutes. The car still runs fine. With the MAF being faulty, whats the worst that will happen if I keep driving?

Have you made any changes to the car lately?
Two days after I put the new exhaust on, I got the same warning but it went away after a day.

I'm looking up MAF sensors online and So far I see some priced at

$227.00 @alloemautoparts.com

and

245.99 @autopartswarehouse.com

Going to ebay now...anyone know where I can get one cheaper? <b>Air Mass Meter would be an alternate name for MAF and MAS correct?</b>

I washed it. Does that count TK? I'm kidding with you bro. On a serious note, nah I haven't done anything changes to it at all.
I know this might sound stupid, but are you sure maybe a little bit of water didn't get somewhere it wasn't supposed to thereby setting something off? Like maybe an undercarriage wash? If you don't notice any kind of performance degradation you might just try what TK said and just drive it for a couple of days and see if it goes away.

Nah, I didn't use any water. I just used the wax I mixed with water in a spray bottle. I will see how it does after a couple days. I see you finally getting that chip take care of. They aren't going to charge you are they?

Didn't use any water? Sounds like you'd just be moving dirt or dust around thereby causing swirls to me. Don't mess up the nice ride now, ok? [:D]

Yeah, I'm happy they got that part done finally. I guess I'll have to ask but I can't imagine they'll charge me, except for shipping of course.

It got to be the MAF. If the MAF is bad, it will trigger the other sensor like, O2 sensor, misfired, lean condition. If the o2 sensor is bad, it will not effect the MAF.

The same exact thing happened to my ride, but being the procrastinator I am, I drove it for quite some time before changing out the MAF. After changing it out, it was like driving a brand new car. A HUGE difference in acceleration. Thanks to everyone on this forum for the awesome knowledge base!!!

Hey Bnzcoupe,

I would also ask you and the group...Has anyone subscribe to Tel Aid? I had read up on the service and you can call the service and speak to a tech and he can tell you what check engine code was set. Might be a resource if you dont have acess to a delux scanner..

Just a thought...but drop me a line if i can be of anymore help..

Thanks guys for all your help. I'm going to go ahead and order the part. The dealer wanted $388.00. Of course I'm not going to let the send me off. I looked on autopartswarehouse.com and they wanted $226 shipped. Anyone know where I can get one cheaper?
