i put in my new grille today, a question is that in teh bottom left of the old grille there was a plastic shield in the back of it to protect an air intake behind it. the new grille doesnt have this shield so any particles that would have normally been blocked are no longer. is this something i should be concerned about? whats this intake for?

I think that your referring to your cold air intake duct, the opening leads into your airbox, housing your air filter. I would say that the blocking part is just an extra measure to prevent airborne debris and particles from entering the airbox and clogging up the airfilter. Don't be too concerned about it, just be aware, and check your airfilter more regularly.

It's there not to let water in your engine threw the air filter while you are driving, and small rocks and stones also. I really suggest putting something in behind the grill protecting only the air intake part, because water is not your engines friend.
