It's been a while since I've had a Mercedes in the stable, but I just purchased a 2002 E320 in excellent shape. I am extremely impressed, to say the least. This is only my 3rd Mercedes; my first was a 1970 300 SEL 6.3 that I purchased to flip, but enjoyed so much I kept it for a couple of years.

I inherited a 1976 230 sedan in 1994 when my granny passed away after 97 wonderful years. It had a tad over 30k miles on it and was literally driven by the finest 'little old lady' it's been my privilege to know. When I was away for training, my then wife managed to somehow crumple a corner of the oil pan - possibly using it as a jack point when she had a flat - let all the oil leak out of the car, never checked the level, and ran it until the engine committed suicide. The poor car had to have been screaming for it's life, but it's screams went ignored. Yet somehow it was my fault for not having the foresight to see my then wife needed to be constantly reminded to check the oil. I did have the foresight to talk to an attorney however, and remedied the problem. (true story).

I've always been a car guy; starting buying older sports cars, fixing them up, driving them until I found something I wanted more; selling, buying, fixing, selling....you get the idea. I'm also an avid motorcyclist, did some SCCA racing in an SC84 Tiga I owned and in numerous Fords and F-2000 'arrive and drive' rentals, a little vintage action in a Porsche 911 RS (clone). I also did a little bike racing for a few years running in AMA Super Sport and Superbike classes when I was in my early 30s. My first child, a son, was born on May 31st after the Indy 500 and that combined with surgery and a wadded up Yamaha OW01 FZR-R - the result of a nasty highside at Road Atlanta in turn one - were signs that my racing program needed to be re-evaluated. But once it's in your blood you're addicted for life. So I'm not going to say my racing days are over, but merely on hold. Despite the fact I haven't been on a track since the early '90s.

Ok, if you're still reading this I'll be doing some minor upgrades to the E320 and a year or so from now it'll pass to my youngest, my daughter, to wrap her in a safe and reliable car for college. So in a year I'll be looking to replace the E320 with something light, two doors, phenomenal brakes and handling, a gob or two of horsepower, a 5 or 6 speed tranny, and German heritage. Porsches are near and dear to my heart....so ya'll have a year to convince me there's another Mercedes in my future. :)

It's an honor and a privilege to be a member here. I look forward to numerous chats and as much bench racing as you can stand.

Best to all,
Mac

nice write-up
but I guess becoming older I do not want a stiff hard uncomfortable Porsche.
An AMG will do.
