Were you online when you reset the system date to 2008 ? As Windows will get online to get the current date and time.
As of right now, the computer is reporting the system date as Sunday Nov. 2, 2008, 10:10PM. WiFi is turned off, wired network cable is unplugged, as it has been throughout this process.

I am not an expert on the STAR, so you will have to wait for Bob for instructions.
By reading Bob's post, he mentioned November 2008 but no exact date.
And you indicated Nov 1, 2008 does not work.
While waiting for Bob, how about setting your system date to end of Nov and give it another try.

The first time I tried, it was set to something like Nov. 23.

I reset the system date to Oct. 1 2008 and that seemed to work. Everything appears to be installed, but DAS won't open (or stay open, I'm not sure which).

My guess is that it isn't staying open, Sam. Did you watch the brief video on making a Start key and set it to expire a few years from today?

In regard to the date, I could do a dozen installs using one date, and then for no apparent reason it would no longer work, and I'd have to try another. That's why there's no specific date just as RKH noted.

I did, and I thought I did that right. I guess I'll re-run the installer and try it again.

The Star Diagnosis setup.exe program takes c. 30 minutes to complete the second time 'round, but you can skip it by saving your new Start key and clicking "Abort". Alternatively, from the install configuration screen choose "Pick" another language besides English as an option. Once you have saved a key and the PC has rebooted, the Star Diagnosis setup.exe program has launched, and you are at the screen where you choose a language, click "Abort" at that point.

I re-ran it last night, and this time it seems to work. Now to drag the laptop and the C3 outside to see if it will talk to the ML320.

I wrote up a quick post on updating my Dell D630 to an SSD. Link below.

A couple of weeks ago Sam posted an issue with the 2008 downloadable Star Diagnosis:

Does anyone have suggestions for getting that software installed? I run into two problems - first, the instructions say that the Star user that's created doesn't have a password set...then there is an error message that says something like "the data is old, deleting DAS."
The very last thing to happen with an install is a simple software routine which, among other things, restores the date from 2008 back to 2020. Evidently this routine does not reliably run. Until this is fixed it is necessary to run a separate, tiny program to complete installation.

Where might that tiny program be found? My D630 still thinks it's 2008. Not that it's a big deal.

My thanks to all the experts posting here. I have a 95 SL 600 that I'm trying to get back on the road. Two bad MAF harness and a bad lower harness. Hope to have those in within the next two week. Anyway, I've gone through this complete thread and some of the links to purchase the Star Diagnostics software don't work anymore. I would really appreciate it if someone could tell me the most reliable, cost effective system, and where to buy it, for my 95 SL600. I want the Star because of the parts catalog. I don't understand C3 from C4, or compact vs otherwise. It looks like some of the Chinese stuff isn't available anymore? Thank you. Perry

Hey Perry,

I bought mine a few years back from this merchant on Ali Express - Shen Zhen OEMScan Tool Co., Ltd.. - Amazing prodcuts with exclusive discounts on AliExpress

I bought a C3 kit with the HDD and the multiplexer/cables. I then found a Dell D630 on ebay. The purchase has been well worth it for my r129 and the other Mercedes around the house.

Radio, thanks for the input. I just pulled the trigger on a C4 system from another vendor, recommended by somone here. I'm looking forward to getting it. Thanks again, Perry

In response to Victor, I don't know of any specific forum, but there are several very helpful folks if you post a question. You can look under the Forum tabs to check. It would be applicable to all models, so maybe it's out there.

Just curious: Should this vehicle have a FSCU Fuel Pump Control Module as part of the standard configuration?? MB Star C4 does not link to the FSCU, however the error message states that it may not be part of the standard configuration - see below:

You can find out through EPC, if it's equipped with one.

Unlikely though, as of 2011 with M278 it came with a separate fuel pump module.

I had not used my Star laptop for 2 or 3 years and when I switched it on it said"no access authorisation code! You must contact the user help desk" I got it to work by altering the date on the Dell laptop but wondered if there was an easy way to fix this? I have had it about 4 or 5 years now, thanks, Jim.

I have not had that problem on mine, but i did with an EPC DVD set I got off eBay. Contacted the seller and he said to reset the clock on the computer, for some reason it seemed to be sensitive to that for some reason. I ended up reinstalling it and that solved the problem, but you can't do that with the Star system I guess.

Xentry / DAS circa 2012-2019 generally have a hard limit of five years irrespective of key code source (factory-issued or generated).

Set the system date to within that limit to regain functionality.
