It's come that time I guess, ran into unexpected tranny issues on my '95 sl320. My normal mechanic said nobody around can rebuild them and the stealer of course wants about 5.6K for a tranny alone, plus the torque inverter and labor, about 8k all said and done (twice the amount for the cars current value ). Being a broke college student my mother enticed me into giving it up for a new vehicle :crybaby2:.

It's been awesome, everyone has been fantastic help, learned more than I could imagine about the SL and had a ton of fun with DIY's (soft top window replacement, blue LED lighting all over the place, soft top cylinder replacements, cop lights, antenna replacements, etc). May come back every now and then to check up. (and my step dad still has a '93 500, so who knows).

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone in this awesome community :D

That stinks man, but if you haven't gotten rid of it yet you should at least check into a junkyard trans. They normally go for 100-300 and a solid mechanic should be able to swap it in for a couple or few hundred dollars more.

Sorry to hear that. You are right that putting 8 k into a tranny is stupid. A used tranny would be a good option. What is being done with your car as we speak? Perhaps someone here can work a deal for a win win?

Good choice, a new car a good used car (something simple) rather than a R129 is a better fit for you at this point in your life. We all know that these cars can be money pits and you need something you can count on for the next few years while you finish school.

Gone

Just traded it in for a new kia optima EX with premium package and all the bells and whistles. A nicer car that my parents truthfully, truthfully the leather in the car was worn and while the transmission had issues, it had some
Wiring issues too, and as a sophmore in college I just need something dependable for the next couple years.

Sorry to see a Benz brother end up with a disposable crap box, but it's probably for the best. On the bright side, you can get lots more studying done without all the hotties begging for rides in your topless Benz !

But the back seat is more useful than the R129

The value of the backseat although possibly the only good selling point is negated by the amount of cash you have to pay the business lady to climb into the back seat :D

Hey now, I'm making the kia my own, and I'm swapping out the kia logos for the korean K5 version logos, so people aren't going to know what kind of car it is. Besides, it wasn't the car that made all the hotties get in it if you know what I mean . Not to mention girls like convertibles but hate when the top is down, it messes up their hair *sigh*

Be safe when using those back seats (I don't mean just seat belts).

The Optima is not a bad looking car at all, their Chief head designer was once the head designer for Audi. They offer a quality car that performs and looks good. Congrats on the new ride.
