Hello,

What is the best way to use the hubcap stencil? This video shows what I did in my test.

The circle part is fine, as is the wiping off with thinner. But for the star, I might just tape it up for painting the red color, then take it off right away (don’t think I need the tape for the top clear coat). Alternative, it seems the stencil needs to be pressed hard down to create a tight fit?

Ideas and experiences welcome!

Not to worry, this is a test hubcap. I got some real nice ones from Fonzi (thank you!).

Peter: I'm not sure what it is called, but there is a spray on mask that you can use. You spray it on the entire hubcap, then use a sharp (razor) knife to peel it off the areas you want to paint, leaving it on the star and other areas you don't want painted. You can just peel it off when you are done.

The video shows a pretty poor job, I used a combination of masking and the stencil but did not push down on it and did not have a bad over-spray.

I had white hub caps and sanded the paint down to give a key but didn't remove it.

Masking up.

Ready to go.

Etch primer first.

Base coat.

Clear on top.

All done.

Thank you all for your suggestions!

Clearly my first try was a not successful one and that is why I was asking for experiences.

"RaceDiagnostics", you did a great job on the blue caps! At what angle did you spray over the stencil?

Thanks so much!
