Hello all,

My 1997 SL320 40th Anniversary took the big hit in Hurricane Ian this past October. Loved that car. Was working hard to make it "just right".

4 1/2 feet of saltwater in the garage was not kind to her. You don't want to see the pictures. Off to the crusher she went.

However a local 1998 SL500 became available today and she is my new love.

I look forward to resuming my participation in this great forum.

Best regards,

RudyZ

Sorry for the loss of your beloved 320; I am in the process of restoring my SL500.

That sucks...so sorry to read this. 4 1/2 feet of water is serious standing water. Do you think you might have saved the car if you had it on 24" jack stands?
Living in Houston and having been through some terrible Hurricanes like Harvey from 2017, my heart goes out to you and everyone in the Ft. Meyers area.

I didn't have jack stands tall enough (grin). The top was down in the car and a random (floating) bottle came to rest on the windshield header. Would have been comical if the car weren't destroyed. Ah well. Life is about people not things.

Damn - sorry to hear. I grew up in Ft Myers and now am in Arizona where there are no natural disasters 🙂 My mom is still there but only got trees knocked down. Were you close to Ft Myers Beach? I saw that was destroyed entirely

Good to hear your mom made out OK. I live on Sanibel and though we took a big hit it was not as bad as the devastation on Fort Myers Beach. Recovery will be slow but the area will recover.

BTW Brian I find your contributions to this forum both informative and enlightening.

Thank you.

Sanibel island is beautiful - I used to ride my bike over there all the time and eat at Cheeburger Cheeburger 🙂 The beach there was my favorite in the entire area

Glad some of my contributions were well received 🙂 Wishing you luck with the new car! 😃

Just a general reply on this thread: my "new love" 1998 SL500 didn't work out. Hence no avatar on my profile.

On our second date she revealed some flaws that were not acceptable so we had to part ways. A real gut punch since she had a pano roof. There are others out there and half the fun is in the chase. BaT, Craigslist and other sources provide much entertainment and a lot of choices in this search though I am nervous about buying a car that I haven't had an opportunity for some "hands on" including driving.

And the beat goes on.....

Back in the game (and back on the forum) with my replacement R129. She's the twin sister of her departed sibling. That is to say a 1997 40th Anniversary SL320. Avatar pic to follow. The departed sister succumbed to Hurricane Ian in September.
