As all of you know, I'm pretty conservative when it comes to blinging up an SL from anything but stock...however, I've decided to do something a little different with the SL I just got back from the body shop.

The paint turned out fantastic, but the Bundt wheels will have to be refinished and the rubber is a little dry rotted although the tread is good.

I'd like some ideas from some of the Wheel Experts about what might look good on the 85 380SL. Color is Diamond Blue Metallic.

Here is a wheel I saw on E-Bay... I'm particularly concerned with the 18" rim size, offset etc. Anxious to hear a Fonzi review. Thanks in advance...now I'll know what it's like to be on the other end of a Bling Wheel rant. lmao

Also need help in selecting a tire size....and will I need any spacers etc to mount.

lol i was just looking at the same wheels and came here to post the same question. Maybe if we buy together they will give us a good deal ? So what do you think of these wheels everyone ?? I have a feeling they would look pretty good because they remind me of the bbs wheels a lot of people put on the 107's

I went with stern wheels on my r129 and was very happy with them, the finish was brilliant and the hyper silver finish with the polished lip isnt too over the top

Not to my taste, but that's relative.

IMO they would be a very tight fit on the front end... if you could shoe-horn them in.

Will they even fit? I think 16" looks right in them, so I would never go over 17"

Period wheels look best--BBS, AMG, etc. I know they are not easy to find, but Fonzy seems to come across the BBS and Lorinser on a regular basis.

For what it's worth, nothing will get more complements than body color AMG Pentas. Everyone loves them and just stare at them with admiration. They are 16" and, with the right tire, look bad ass.

You scared me for a second with the title and first line of your post. I know you're from Illinois and I was hoping that you hadn't been watching PBS and gotten brain washed. :D

I DKJS Don't know Jack Shit about wheels, clearances etc....it's all quit ecomplicated, but can't you compensate for the 18" rims with the tire size...obviously I'm not looking for a Monster Truck look....lol.

Okay Yamaha, they may not be for you, but you never know about db51. He might want them and a set of spinner rims for his tractor. :D

Agreed.

Although those deep dish Lorinsers give me wood, as well.

Well i definitely wont be getting lorinsers. My goal is to make women wet ,not give dudes hard ons !
Well things change as one gets older, I guess.

As a young man I tried to be flashy to impress the girls.....

As an older guy......I could care less.

If Nobette knew I liked Loriners THAT much, I'd probably have a garage full..... like Fonzi.

:)

I maybe should be checking with Fonzi's inventory....I'm definitely not wanting to give anyone wood, and not sure I've got enough wood if I made women wet, so I'd better give up the idea of some wheels that belong on a gen-xer's ride.

Rim size greatly effects the ride.I have 18" rims with 235 45 on the front and 265 35 on the rear with HD shocks but i will be changing to a max 16" rims when the tyres wear out. The ride on the 18" is much too harsh for my liking.

I dont believe these wheels should be stereotyped as a young man wheels. I think they will look pretty classy on the car, similar to the bbs. They are a tuner/ wire style rim, not some gaudy chromed out pimp wheel. Dont let all their bling young man talk bring you down ! I wish i had more skills with photoshop to superimpose them on a r107.

Idk but the 18's on my r129 ran smooth as a babies @ss with 245/40's granted the suspension was 20 years newer but were still talking coil springs. A lot has to do with the compound of the tire and the pressure you run in them too.
