I read on another forum a brief note about a Carlsson glass wind blocker. The writer mentioned that it was security glass not plastic. Does anyone know anything about this item? I'd sure rather have a glass one than plastic.

I like the fact that the MB plexi windscreen has little mesh inserts that fit inside the roll bars to help prevent the air from coming through them. What good is the Airscarf and glass windscreen if the air is still coming though the holes in the roll bars?

I have that screened MB unit, but wonder if the seat backs might block some of the turbulence anyway...[:0]

I should have purchased mine a few months ago. I just found out the new price is $653.00. I tried to find a better price from "Park Place" but they raised their price, too. My dealer is discounting it to about $585.00[:(][:(][:(]

Interesting. It's still shown on the official M/B web site at $449. I'll have to see what my dealer has to say about this.

Mel:
Be prepared...I got mine a month ago with a 10% off coupon on the $449, but in our Norhtern CA ride Saturday had it confirmed they have gone up...remember this thread..

I feel for those that were waiting...although I like mine, 600+ seems outrageous...[xx(]

I'll get a piece of auto safety glass cut to my own pattern and I'll make my own mounts. Fabricating things is something that I've been doing for 30 years.

whoa, raised the price?!?

and a month ago I was complaining about paying $449 for a few peices of plastic and a slab of plexiglass in a gussied up embroidered carrying case. I thought it was overpriced then.

I seriously doubt the raise in price has anything to do with a rise in raw materials/production costs... more like MB capitalizing in the fact that winter is over, more people will be buying SLK's, and more people will have the top down and want one.

MB still list the MSRP as $449 so it appears this is individual dealer gouging and not "...MB capitalizing...". I doubt that there would need to be a price increase because of the Dollar to Euro ratio because the Windscreen is a high profit item that contains little in parts costs.

The person I spoke with Saturday actually has a car accessories business and checked with the same dealer where I bought mine last month and it was the higher price regardless of the 449 still on the web...[xx(]

I just purchased mine 2 weeks ago for $449 less 20% discount. No mention at the time that the price would be going up. Glad I got it when I did!!

However, before I would purchase at the higher price or forego the purchase of one, I would call several dealers and ask the price as the price increase across the board may be incorrect.

Another thought about the glass windscreen. It is so easy to remove that it may become a hot item to steal. If you park your car for any length of time with the top down, you may return to find it gone (the windscreen not the car).

You really think the people that buy an SLK would steal a windscreen? [xx(] Doesn't seem like it would fit any other car...[:0]
