There's a guy in South Carolina who is selling a beautiful blue coupe without a sunroof. I was thinking it would be nice to buy it and put in a glass sunroof. That's always an option. To have an aftermarket sunroof put in is only about $500 or so.

You just want to swap out the stock for a glass? That would be really cool.

But that looks like a model that goes up and back. Wasn't it the 126's that do that?

Or is this a whole new mechanism that gets put in and replaces the cable, motor, all that jazz?

I know our sunroofs are larger than the ones typically installed today, but I have to think that someone out there in the business should have something to fit those dim's. Or could make something custom. Maybe one of those west coast car "pimpers"?

I'd like to have that one in the photo which moves the same as the stock metal one.I have no clue as to where to find this intriguing setup but I have to admit I'm getting a little obsessed with it :D

The only bad thing about the glass roof slidding back in its normal position would be that to find a clean solution to providing a shade to prevent glare or excessive heat seems to be a little difficult; since the roof so closely slides in.

I image one could create a shade in which it was retracted into some sort of roller

Doesn't the W126 have a 2 part sunroof, one is the tilt roof while there's a small panel you could pull forward and back to bring some shade?

126 models didn't have the small panel you could pull out... I've seen it in other cars though...Having a tilt roof is pretty cool.

FWIW, a few Gen II 126'ers have claimed successful transplants of the W140 glass sunroof. Same size and function (forward, aft, tilt up and down style) with pull shade.

WIll try & repeat my question, & hope those who have the answer can help.. Cos not a single reply was related to my question.

The original posted of this thread posted a photo of a sunroof on the W123 with the tilt option. W123's only came with the retract option.

Is it possible to directly swap the W126 sunroof mechanism into the W123?

Thanks.

Glass tilt sunroof

Guys,

You might start with measuring the glass roof in a W210 chassis.

In the S class the W126 Sunroof hole is the same size as the W140 (Which has a glass option) but the S class sedan and coupe have different size holes but they are both the same as the W140 Sedan and coupe respectively.

Its a place to start your quest.

Good luck
