Hi all,
I am new bee on this forum.
First tme in my life, I bought a mercedes i.e GL450 2007 in last August at 9k miles. So far I loved the car. I saw service reminder displayed. After reading about Service A and Service B and what dealer does, just wondering whether to get the service at dealer or not. I would welcome any suggessions.

Thanks.
:)

Do It Yourself

I do my own maintenance. I just reset the computer myself:See AP00-20-P-0042RT Model 251 Reset Services Indicator.

During the vehicle warranty period I have always had the dealer perform all required maintenance service. I do this so that should be a major problem ($$$$) there can be no question that the vehicle was maintained and serviced as specified.

After the warranty period is another story. Then I take it to my local independent mechanic/shop.

From my humble experience with Mercedes, the GL is nothing more than a regular 450 motor requiring ordinary maintenance. This means oil every several thousand miles with filter, and all fluids and filters replaced every two years.

The motor appears to require 0W-40 Mobile 1, nine quarts with fleece filter. No problem.

The spark plugs will likely need replacement in 100,000 miles and all the other hardware like brakes and joints will need to be serviced as in any other vehicle.

I'll then reset the computer to avoid that annoying reminder.

What was Mercedes thinking: that its owners don't know how to maintain their vehicles?

Sounds like it in your case.

Also, how many times have you read "I just bought a used xxx immaculate with full service records." Without those records, your car will be worth lots less. What are you going to do, show your persepective buyer your diploma in ... ?

No. I just do not trust a shop that changed my oil, charged me $800 and then the oil level was down just a few months afterwards.

I spare no expense on my GL.

I kept my 190E 2.3 for seventeen years. It has no service records whatsoever. There's no telling how long I'll keep the GL.

Service Records

Speaking of service records, I doubt this car will have any service records.

Not likely to be anywhere near 17 years.

Maybe. However, now that I am free of the yolk of maintenance, I can keep her going a very long time.
