After about 42,000 miles, the OEM Goodyear LS-2 Run-on-Flat 275/50-20's on my 2009 GL320 are ready for replacement. Unfortunately, replacements of the same tire are over $500 (each!) plus mount and balance at around $100 each. Not wanting to dump almost $2500 on tires, I'm wondering what the alternatives might be - as it works out, no other manufacturer makes a run-flat in that same size that is sold in the US market (Michelin makes one, but only sold in Canada) - Thanks Mercedes-Benz!

I think the best option is to give up on the run-flats and use conventional tires - keeping a spare in my garage and the AAA membership paid up (there's no spare in the Bluetec diesels - space is taken up by the ADblue piss (urea) tank.

Most "standard" tires come in 275/55-20, not the 50 series. Wondering if anyone is running the 55 series tires on 20" GL rims and can comment on how they are performing. By the way, a Goodyear LS-2 in a 275/55-20 non-run-flat sell for only about $150 - less than 1/3 the cost of the run flat!

I know this is an old thread but I have been wondering the same thing. Has anyone out there gone from 275/50/20 to 275/55/20 without any issues? I’m wondering if the slight increase in tire height will cause wheel well rubbing.
