Ok guys I'm getting ready to do a brake pad change on my 2004 C230 Kompressor (I have about 30K miles, the brake light has NOT come on yet), I am getting ready to order the pads...

Mine has the factory cross-drilled front discs. I guess all the C230's have that but just want to be sure here ;)

There are several pads listed. I know this is probably a stupid question but does my C230 need the

"Front Brake Pad Set
w/o Evolution or AMG EvolutionSports Package"

OR

"Front Brake Pad Set
Sedan03-04w/ Evolution or AMG EvolutionSports PackageNote:Wear Sensor # 220 540 07 17 w/ Ovalconnector is NOT included in set. "

Regarding the rears it looks like there is only one type for the rears is that correct?

Also, do I need any sensors If so how many?

Finally, I see something about brake shoes for Parking brake...do I need that? I never use the parking brake.

Thanks for any help!!!

If you give them the vin, the dealer can lookup the exact pads you need. If the sensor has not gone off then just reuse the sensor. If you want a new one just for laughs, the parts the dept can get one, about $6, just one is needed. Rear brakes should last for a long time, are you sure you need them?

Thanks for the reply...thing is I would like to order them online. I was going to order PAGID brand pads. They only list the two options I stated in my first post...

My discs are factory cross-drilled and the calipers look pretty big and say "Mercedes Benz" printed very large on the caliper...

Anyone know if this is considered the "EvolutionSports" brakes?

Do all C230 Sedans have front calipers that say "Mercedes Benz" on them?

Thanks

under your name add the year and model of your car(s) - it helps a ton...

those of us with Sport Packages received the "old" C32 front set up...by AMG if this helps...

the calipers are made by BREMBO...the rotors are 13.6"

2004 was a transitional year for brakes. The early 2004 cars have smaller single piston brakes, the 2004.5 cars have the larger 2 piston brakes with the cross drilled rotors. If it fits a 2003 or older, or any year C230 coupe, then it won't fit your car. If it fits the 2005 and 2006 it will fit your car. In 2002 and 2003, the C32 AMG brakes are the same as yours. So if I had to guess, get the w/Evolution or AMG EvolutionSports Package ones. If you are unsure and don't feel comfortable with returning it, remove your pad, trace it out and fax it to them to verify before shipping.

Thanks very much.

Mine is a 2004 C230 Sport Kompressor Sedan

OK, that makes sense. My calipers look much larger than other cars this size and look much nicer in general than normal calipers I have seen. My guess was that they were the Evolution ones as well.

I have a buddy with an 05 C230 sedan (mine is also a Sedan)...so if his calipers look like mine I should be good to go with the Evolution/C32 pads?

Thanks again!

2002-2006 C32/55 all use the same front and rear brake setup.

2004.5 C230k/320 sport sedan has the same front brake as the C32/55 other than it says Mercedes on them. They are 4-piston brakes. The rear uses the standard non-vented disc from the 2002-2006 rear.

2002-2004 C230k/240/320 all have the same brakes other than the 320 has the vented rear disc.

early 2005 C230k/320 sport has the 4-piston brakes same as the 2004.5.

2005-2006 C230k/230 sport has the same rotor size, but 2-piston front caliper. The C350 sport gets the 4-piston brakes that are the same as the C32/55 and 2004.5/early-2005 sport sedans.

Thanks very much for that!

Soo basically with my 2004 C230 Sport with the calipers that say "Mercedes Benz' on them and the stock cross/drilled rotors I can just order front pads for a 2002 C32???

Thanks

Was there any issue with the SBC brake system on this brake change? I am curious in information on the automatic locking caliper saftey feature...

This has me confused. So when did Mercedes start using 2 piston front caliper on the C230 Kompressor sport sedan
