Its just a reg engine according to WIS.Gen II Euro SEC with Try Y's, FGS, and other goodies. According to the VIN # it's a 500.
Can someone tell me what the engine id means?
Thanks
Is this a round knob type dial? My euro 300 has it and its for different octane fuel settings.close to the fuse box it has the numbered dial for different engine settings..
Yes, that's the one. I think it's numbered one through four?Is this a round knob type dial? My euro 300 has it and its for different octane fuel settings.
I only had one look at it, and it could have more settings. You are probably right.Hm, I thought there were more settings on it but I'll have to check when I'm back home, drove the SEC today.
Yes please... I still have not found that answer in this forum, after searching and searching... Where the ... is that engine number?? I'm afraid some day i'll come across a routine police inspection and they will think i've erased the number!I need to find the engine number with the compression ratio stamped on the engine block.
Can someone tell me where this cast number is located?
Thanks.
Not sure abt 963 vs 965, but the 245 HP version came to replace the 240 HP version in oktober 1985.This is really strange. :dunno:
The 117.963 engine is a Series 1 5.0L engine.
The '85 through '91 cars had the 117.965 5.0L engine.
The VIN #, 126.044, confirms that the car is a Series 2 5.0L SEC.
Maybe the 117.965 replaced the 117.963 later than 1985? Any of our non-North America members know for sure?
Now I'm even more confused. Not sure abt 963 vs 965, but the 245 HP version came to replace the 240 HP version in oktober 1985.

Sorry it took me this long to get back to the thread.Yes please... I still have not found that answer in this forum, after searching and searching... Where the ... is that engine number?? I'm afraid some day i'll come across a routine police inspection and they will think i've erased the number!
Look down between the back of the engine and the firewall. Engine number is stamped on the back of the engine on the top of the block (in front of the gearbox).Sorry it took me this long to get back to the thread.
After we had pulled the before mentioned Euro 500SEC engine/tranny combo, I saw on the block the engine number followed by 10:1 HV.
Which means it is not the 963 version engine as stated in the VIN.
But I still can't remember where on the block it was stamped.
I am sure talbir or Jonathan would find this an easy question to answer.
The 500 US engine is at Jerry's house on an engine stand where I can turn the motor, and look for that elusive number.
It should be in the same spot, no matter which 117 engine it is?
At least I hope so.
Cheers
Yea that is where I found my # for the AMG car 117 963 12 000342 not sure of the comp ratio but after taking it apart it looks to be just some euro replacment engine and not the orginal one from AMGLook down between the back of the engine and the firewall. Engine number is stamped on the back of the engine on the top of the block (in front of the gearbox).
It looked similar to these tranny numbers, followed by 10:1 HVYea that is where I found my # for the AMG car 117 963 12 000342 not sure of the comp ratio but after taking it apart it looks to be just some euro replacment engine and not the orginal one from AMG
