I think the Nittos will fit better on these than the stock 18"s - but if I where to buy new rims they would be 16"s.

I can't imagine anyone paying that much.

Goodness!! Those wheels certainly are rare, but that price is a little too steep for my wallet. At most I'd pay $2650.00 for the Mercedes-Benz AAV concept wheels with the custom Mercedes-Benz tires.

That is, if they fit, were for sale and I really needed them. Otherwise the Mercedes wheels that came on the G500 are just fine. It's too bad Mercedes doesn't offer any stonecrusher wheels (or anyone else, for that matter) for the G. [:p] Oh well. [;)]

These pics are a courtesy of Harald and Wolfgang. Thanks guys! [:D]

Harald,

Are those the same wheels as the Sprinter Wheels? Because someone found Sprinter wheels that look nearly identical. Either way, your wheels look surprisingly handsome in black. [8D]

ooohhhh....you know harald... we're thinking along the same lines on this one... as of recent i've been thinking of getting those Atik's and then having them painted with the bumper in black or techtite grey.

You know the big questions is what tires you gonna use? There's a BFG at/ko that's 275/70r16 which is just a half inch taller than the 265/70r16 but gives just a little more tread.

painted them myself
sanded before with #400
cheap flat paint
dried at 180F for an hour

I looked into powder coating - the cheapest place wanted $100 per wheel. Too much.

If some of the paint comes off due to sratching (it probably will) I'll break out the $2 spray can and fix it.

Have not decided which tire size - probably a 33" equivalent.

mb230s,

swapping wheels for $$ ? Or?

Harald
I was hoping my 18"s!

Do you think the extra 1" of width help with tire selection? I suspect the Nittos may fit this rim well.

Have you decided not to sell the 02?

Harald, Maybe the fancy centers like dutch has would look good on those black Atik rims. You gonna run 265 width 33's? I think people get a little rubbing with 285 width 33's?... or will you just not worry about it or adjust your steering stop? Ditto's MB230's questions... you deciding to keep it?

MB230's i think that 285's are often measured for width on 8.5 in rims so it's should certialny be more ideal for that size. If that rim where just available as 16"s i'd be all over it. The offset and width is exactly what i'm looking for.

Wheel Centers

BrentG500 - 4/16/2005 6:04 PM

I like the centers that Harald chose. Which ones does Dutch have?

to sell or not to sell

well, except a few scam artists, nobody wants to seriously buy my G500. Guess, I have to drive it myself. I hate driving it. Not.

I'll be selling my 280GE project instead.
http://www.rubicon-trail.com/G-Class/280GE/280GE-sale.html

Still considering, painting the G500 with some flat military paint - if needed with a brush. Live in a very small redneck place and don't want to show off with a shiny black rapperblingtruck. Maybe I just stop washing it.

Come from a city (Hamburg) where it is a deadly sin to show money. You have it. Mercedes could not sell any big sedans there until they came up with the idea to offer their cars optional without the 450, 500, 560. So, now you know where the option "Wegfall Typkennzeichen" came from. That way you could pretend it was a 280. Probably as sick as bling. But with your family living there it is probably already in your genes and you can't help following that pattern. Now I can do what ever I want without society backlash - but something inside tells me, I can't. We need Thomas here to help us out.

I have not really looked into all the issues with larger tires yet. Too many projects to finish and a fully booked summer season. Will most likely keep the stock tires (riding comfort, steering geometry etc) and will instead install a mild (40mm) body lift and the equivalent of 33' tires in metric 16". If there should be any rubbing, I'll adjust the sterring stops.
