Not sure if I'm the only one out there, but when you come across a used W140 with the shift instructions sticker at the bottom of the shift gate still applied, as pictured, do you automatically think more positively about the car and the way in which its previous owner handled and cared for it (all other factors aside)? Or am I the only one who ever thought about this? :)

Just what I can see of the condition of the wood alone makes me think this car was well cared for. But, yeah, I would tend to think it may be a good sign.

Though I can see and appreciate your point about how the W140 is cared for, the minimalist in me sees it as a distraction, ugly, & messy. :p

Oh, don't get me wrong. I've debadged my car and would do so even if it were a 600! So surely I'd remove the unsightly sticker, were I to acquire a car with one! ;)

Usually stuff like that shows a sign of pride in their car especially if the rest of the car backs up the thought process

Yes. The more I think about it now that I've posted this, I think it may have to do with the car being unadulterated and as original as possible!

The sticker is still there in my W140 and my W124, and both were extremely well cared for examples, dealership serviced most of their lives (until they came to be in my possesion..:)). They are still well cared for, however, it is just by me now as opposed to the dealer. Only visit the dealership for alignments.

Well I removed mine on the basis that I don't like stickers everywhere.

And......

My wood trim had no cracks.

I bought a 2000 model Boxster new. It had a hideous "Don't put your child in the front seat due to air bag" warning sticker on the passenger side dash. For some reason, I couldn't bring myself to remove it. There was something about that "just drove it off the lot" factory newness every time I got in the car with that sticker still there. I sold the car after 3 years with the sticker in place.

I believe the OE trim was indeed black...unless the S600s were different. The chrome trim was a non-OE aftermarket piece.

Yes true.

The CL600/S600 variety is actually also plastic, but with a "hematite",
kind of black chrome/shine to it;

(in my CL500, along with CL600 wood insert)
