A couple of times over the last 2 weeks, I've had the opportunity to use full throttle from complete (or nearly complete) stop. The transmission is in first with the engine pulling really strong and the engine cuts out completely instead of the anticipated upshift into second gear!

Obviously the engine revs have just tripped the over-rev limiter in the fuel pump relay... shuts the engine off instantly - I can tell you. This has occurred a total of two times recently and once last year/year before.

Never occurs except when it gets down into first and I have my right foot planted...

Has anyone else had this occur & what was the fix?

Mine is a stock 560 that runs smooth, quiet & strong. The transmission shifts well.. up - down - kickdown.. whatever..

Thanks & Cheers, MBL

Boston calling Talbir-come in please!![;)]

Maybe you need to get a relay with a higher rev limit?

Perhaps your shift point has 'shifted'?

If it's only ever happening on full WOT in first gear, then it's likely an issue in the valve body - there are 3 valves controlling first gear, maybe one or more are faulty.

The hydraulic pressure should force second gear upshift - the fact that this is not happening suggests a valve body issue.

Another possibility is a faulty kickdown solenoid on the transmission - that would give some funky shifting patterns.

Thanks for the PDQ response guys! [:)]

Interesting..... Yes, I'm sure it only happens if the transmission gets down into first... Otherwise if it drops only as low as 2nd at WOT, all I have to do is hold on & point it!!

) MBL
