Hey guys back again. Need to ask a question regarding fuel pump replacement. So my buddy and I tried taking my SEL out of storage about 3 months ago and the only thing stopping us was the fuel pump was leaking gas. He touched the starter wire with his power probe. The car finally started. And then my eyes were burning for 4 mins. Didn’t notice the rear of the car was leaking gas until he went back there and told me to shut it off. Should I replace the pump? lines? or both?

Well, first you need to figure out where the leak is...

I guess I'd jack the car up and remove the wheel, then have someone cycle the key to on, which should run the pumps for a moment. Repeat until you can identify the leak, then the course of action should be obvious.

It's unlikely the pump itself is the source of the leak. The photo suggests the connection to the filter might be at least part of the problem.

Probably wise to have a fire extinguisher handy...

If it hasn't been done in the past, you should replace all the rubber back there instead of replacing one as they leak. If one's leaking, the others are not far behind. It's very much a while-you're-there moment. I just did this on a client's car. Spending money on this rubber isn't "being robbed," it's being smart about your repairs, especially ones with high flammability risk (fuel delivery).

Ah my B for misunderstanding.

I can pull up a list of all the parts you need but it'll take me some time--busy with work on this Monday

You can cut that metal ferrule off with some sharp diagonal cutters and replace the hose with new and secure it with hose clamps. Good advice to replace all the rubber back there, though. It's all less than 100 psi, so fuel injection style hose clamps should be fine everywhere.

so I’m replacing the metal line right now just to get the car out of the storage and doing so dumped a good amount of fuel out of the fuel pump. What are the best steps to starting the car once everything is assembled. Do I prime them first?

Fill and turn the key. Done. Check for leaks. DO NOT overtighten ANYTHING metal on the fittings. Always air on the side of not-tight-enough. You can always slightly tighten to stop a leak. But you can't undo it if you strip threads.
