My 2000 E55 145K engine light comes on and car runs very rough when fuel level drops below 5 gallons. After fuel is filled, light goes off and vehicle runs ok.

This has been occurring for 20K miles. I have had it serviced at 3 MB dealership repair shops with no resolution. Several sensors replaced including mass air flow sensor and O2 sensors. Dealer repair shop states it is not fuel sender unit. Any ideas?

Did you replace the fuel filter....??, try to put a fuel cleaner,, if the problem persists, then you have to check the fuel air

system,, may have a bad Vent valve & Regeneration valve, if those goes bad, much & much air well suffocates the fuel tank,

especially when the tank been almost empty......

ZAYED,,

Find a code reader to erase the pre-existing codes to get back to "normal" either right before or right after the following minor work is done. Record code # before erasing.

Your "dealer" if they are not telling you the codes is cheating you a bit - they are doing something to try to help - but not telling your the CEL code.

Replace fuel filter with Bosch or Mann - it's a $35 filter aftermakret, do not go non-brand/store-brand - and will take some standard hose clamps to replace the MB trickster clamps. See DIY for this in the stickies, 1/2 hr job.

Dose the fuel tank with Stabil Marine Formula (Blue) which is like $9 at a retail auto parts store or Walmart. Dose per instructions on the bottle, one bottle will be two does. One dose, run thru total 2 fresh tanks, then throw in 2nd dose.

Fuel filter and Stabil will insure smooth and clean fuel injection system - which should help.

Take of gas cap and flip the rubber gasket around so fresh face of that existing cap gasket seals against the tank.

After the fuel filter changeout, the Stabil treatments, the flipped gasket - then if a fresh code appears again let us know what that code is and we can go from there.

Keep the beat !
