Hi all, my 1995 C200 has never let me down in 106k miles, until last week when, with a quarter tank of gas showing on the guage it spluttered to a halt and would not restart. Got the breakdown wagon out and after a lot of checking things and head scratching it was suggested that a I put a gallon in the tank 'just to see what happened'.

It started first time and ran just fine.
So I guess I'll just have to make sure I keep the tank over a quarter full until I can find out why, but thats the problem, I can't seem to find a fault! Fuel filter seems fine, pumps running as it should and I would really appreciate any help with this please.
It's been a great runner and I just want to keep it right is all. :)

Possibly one or both of the fuel senders is reading incorrectly. Another idea is that there is a transfer hose inside our saddle tanks that can collapse/wear over time and not be able move the fuel from one side to the other when the level gets lower. B

The senders on these cars tend to develop varnish on them, and they stop giving accurate readings.

I cleaned mine by using Berryman B-12 in the gas. I also used some Seafoam.
Now I add some Marvel Mystery Oil to every tank. Smooths out the idle, and I'm getting better mileage with it. My senders are working perfectly again.

The senders MUST be replaced as a pair, and require a new wiring harness. There is a special tool required. Maybe a couple of tankfuls with gasoline additives would be worth a try.

Thanks for this I really appreciate your help. http://www.benzworld.org/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif
If you are wondering I am based in the UK and sadly Berryman B-12 isn't available over here, or indeed Seafoam, but we do have D-Tox and Cataclean that I think will do a similar job and its got to be worth a try before taking the tank senders out.
I also have that transfer hose checked out as it would be a quick fix and it would explain why I run out when the tank still appears quarter full.
Thanks again and by the way none of the UK based Mercedes Benz forums could help with this so kudos to you. http://www.benzworld.org/forums/images/smilies/thumbsup.gif
