so, having problems with engine shutting off after key is taken out.

happened right after i took the mats out and cleaned under the seats. i thought maybe i knocked one of the lines loose.

checked under the seats and all the lines look intact.

next, engine running, locked the driver door and walked around the vehicle.

the trunk locks, the fuel door did not lock, the passenger door locks.

after unlocking the driver door, the trunk unlock, the fuel door stayed the same, and the passenger door unlocked.

took the fuel door element out and it appears to work when not installed.

re-installed and the same thing happens.

when locking, i have to give the rod a firm push to get it extended but it stays.

when unlocking the rod retracts as normal.

not sure if i should just replace the element, or if there could be another problem.

sorry for the rant.

If this is for the 300cd sounds like a vacuum problem somewhere. The mats incident could be unrelated but it does suggest a vacuum line coming loose.

solved.

turned out to be a loose rubber line on the dashpot... replaced the hose and engine now shuts off.

just not sure why the fuel door element wasn't working.

all locks worked except fuel door, and engine wouldn't shut off.

any good vacuum diagrams for the 300cd?

the good ones i've seen are for the sedans...

i was getting ready to pull door panels and change elements.

just goes to show you, check the vacuum lines under the hood first!

I too wouldn't mind seeing a good vac diagram for the coupe. Glad you found your source jab, I'm still searching for mine when I catch the time.

guess what?

problem continues...

car shut off correctly a few times, but then back to delayed shut off.

also, the fuel door lock is not working- again!

the fuel door unlocks if i push it into lock position. but won't lock on its own.

trunk lock/unlock good.
passenger door lock/unlock good.
fuel door lock bad
fuel door unlock good

delayed shut off.

locking and unlocking the driver door prolongs engine idle when key is in off.

mityvac in the mail.

any ideas.

not sure how the fuel door lock mechanism is related. but everything else works fine.

Have you got anyway of measuring vacuum and checking for leaks?

Have you by any chance recently removed and fitted the brake master cylinder?

Do you feel the need to push down really hard on your brake pedal? (under normal planned braking - not a oh f%^*&*** I didn't see that situation)

i ordered a vacuum pump to check the lines.

haven't messed with the BMC.

brakes feel ok, but the brake light is on. not sure if its related though.
