I have just bought a 1985 190.

The car is a 2.0l automatic, with a Pierburg 2E-E carb.

The car will only start if I disconect the electrical lead to the Fuel Cut off Valve, which sits below the carb body.

Does anybody know what this devices does ?

can you repair it, if not does anyone know where replacements might be found ?

UK based.

That valve also controls the fuel/air mixture. When you turn the ignition off, it shuts the fuel off.

I think is is a sealed unit and not repairable.

You could try http://www.dronsfields.co.uk/ for a secondhand one.

I would think so, the only possible side effect is probably the engine running on when you switch it off.
