Hello - hoping to sell this classic to another enthusiast.
Well cared for 97 SL500 with AMG Sport Package and 119K miles. Polar white with black interior and chrome AMG wheels. Car has been well maintained and it’s running great. It’s an Arizona car brought back to San Diego 3 years ago. I am the third owner and I’ve had this car for just over 3 years. Driving with the top down has been a lot of fun. Car has never let me down. Since that’s my baby, I’ll try to be as detailed as I can. The following maintenance has been addressed since I’ve purchased this car:
Bilstein shocks and struts along with needed hardware, new pads and rotors, engine mounts, transmission mount, transmission adapter, pan seals, MB radiator with hoses, spark plugs, belt, belt tensioner and 2 pulleys, hood insulation pad, trunk struts, various plastic pieces and components. All the fluids and filters are up to date (transmission filter, fuel, air and cabin filter). 2 old paper speakers have been replaced. Original cassette tape player radio swapped with one from a 2001 Porsche (same wire connector so no need to mess with wires, amp or speakers). I still have the original radio and security code. Porsche radio gave me a CD player and removable faceplate. It also adds Aux-In feature for a hidden, neatly installed Bluetooth and hands-free calling. Auto-antenna rebuilt with new set of gears. All 11 cylinders for the soft top have been rebuilt so the top has no leaks and works like a champ. Hardtop looks great and comes with the stand. Sagging headliner has been replaced with matching suede.
SL starts right up and is very responsive. Transmission shifts as it should. There are no engine lights or OBD trouble codes. Battery works great; had no issues starting up after leaving the car at the airport for 8 days. Honestly, the car looks and rides great. The only flaw that I can see is a slight engine ticking relating to cam oiler tubes, known issue with these engines, well researched on this forum. I never got around to address this. Other than that, passenger headrest is not going up. You can hear the motor but gears are skipping. This has always been low priority on my list. Wheels have a bit of curb rash with 1 being worse than the others. By now, tires will need to be replaced soon so depending on the interest I can buy a new set or drop the price down roughly $500.
Car is very clean with minimal road rash (addressed by Dr. ColorChip). Paint is in a very good shape; hard to believe it’s a 20 year old car – thank you Bruno Sacco!!
Books, 2 sets of keys, MB tool kit, clean title and carfax are included. I’m in Vista, north San Diego County. Asking for $9500 and will consider a reasonable offer.
