For sale is my 1997 Mercedes S600. The car has 191k miles but has a record of dealership maintenance for it's whole life.

The vehicle is black with a black interior. The interior is in terrific shape aside from the driver's seat showing a good amount of wear. The signature S600 hand stitched dashboard, hand stitched door panels, hand stitched center console, and all other surfaces are in great shape. The factory sound system is amazing. The newer radio has a functional navigation system. The trunk is clean and has a nice WeatherTech rubber mat.

The windows are double-pane and the soft-close doors function properly.

This car has all available packages, including factory Xenon headlights, rear reclining seats, adjustable suspension, and an electronic rear sunshade.

The exterior has been cheaply repainted by the previous owner. The car will need a paint job or a good detailer to buff the exterior to bring the paint to good shape.

Mechanically it is in good shape. As stated above, it has been dealer maintained throughout it's life, according to CarFax. I'll try to post it soon. The engine is strong, transmission works good. Tires are in great shape.

The car is located in Morrisville, PA.

Asking $2,900.

Please e-mail me if you have any questions.

Car needs temperature sensor or water pump. Has new thermostat. Don't have time to deal with it any longer, holds temp at idle for as long as you want but climbs quickly once you start driving. A tow is preferred. $1,800 takes it.

I wish I could say that in this situation shipping is an option but I doubt it would make sense to pay $1,000 to ship it unless you specifically are looking for this car.

I know someone in the area who might be interested, but before I put my reputation on the line, I'm wondering why it now needs a water pump or temperature sensor after replacing the radiator.

I'm not criticizing, but it sounds like you're throwing parts at it rather than properly diagnosing the issue.

Can you elaborate?

Thanks,

Dan

Dan,

It is an odd issue that the car is having. As stated in the listing, when I had the car delivered to me, it ran and drove perfect. I drove it around for a little while without any issues. Then, I noticed the radiator was leaking slightly from the lower hose connector on the driver's side. I bought a brand new radiator and had it replaced. Then after driving the car home (admittedly on the highway mostly) I noticed that the temperature climbs very quickly once the car starts driving. The heater vents and the coolant in the tank weren't getting too hot either, I figured it was likely the thermostat stuck on a closed position which didn't allow the coolant to properly cycle through the system. Bought a new thermostat and replaced it. Now the coolant cycles through the system and the climate control vents warm up with the car. I opened the coolant cap and let the system self-bleed of air for a while and in idle the car operated absolutely perfectly for over an hour. As soon as I decided to drive it around the block, the temp climbed to 100-105 after the first minute. I didn't drive it further. It honestly could be that the system needs to be bled for much longer as my research on the forums and feedback from fellow Mercedes enthusiasts suggested that the m120 cooling system takes a very long time to bleed as it contains so much coolant. If it's not that, it's the water pump that needs to be replaced.

It's hard for me to believe that the water pump coincidentally decided to fail right after radiator replacement. The timing coincidence just seems bizarre. I just don't have the time or desire to mess around with it any longer as I have an extensively modified W201 along with a few other cars that take up my time. Also work has been busy which is a good thing but doesn't allow me to take on projects of this nature any longer.

As for driving it, I personally wouldn't want to take the chance and try to drive it because of this odd issue.

I am, but it hasn't sold yet so I've been slowly doing things I've always wanted to do to it, like finding leather to reupholster the door panels, and searching for/collecting other little odd pieces for it.

Taking offers, would like to have the car gone sooner rather than later.

Damn....your best bet is to sell it to a mechanic locally so there is zero cost involved in relocation as well as repairs which could be done in-house.....but since that has not happened yet and I am on the west coast, here we go.....

Here comes the insult offer....bear with me, its only an offer, probably meant to be funny but serious enough that if you say yes, I will go through with it.

Coolant Temp Sensor from VDO is $34.00
Laso WaterPump $323.64
OEM Water Pump Gasket $5.08
Parts $362.72
Labor to replace parts 4 hours @$150 an hour = $600
Total $962.72
Shipping to west coast (AZ) $1100.00
Total expenses $2062.72 in repairs and transfers.

So....will you take $500.00 for the car?
(Insert evil response here)

It's very tempting but it would be foolish for me to buy it.

You might want to run a CarFax on it. It had a issue in the past from the looks of things.
