I am selling my 93 500E conversion. I am the third owner. The previous owner took his 400E and had it converted to a 500E. Engine, suspension and bodywork was done (all receipts are going with the car). It runs great and has had a recent tune up with new plug wires, new front brakes, new belt tensioner. This car has cold A/C and has been checked over by my indie. It has 112K miles and runs great. Asking $6750. Selling because I picked up a S600 so this car has to go. Please feel free to call me at 618-977-5922. Car is located in Oklahoma City. It also has 17 inch brabus wheels. Thanks.

Engine work

A 92 500E engine was installed in this car. Conversion was done in 2001, engine was purchased for $8700, timing chain, valve guides, upper and lower gaskets replaced, oil pump, to a tune of an additional $4500. Essentially to bring the engine up to "new" condition. The other conversion costs of the suspension and the brakes, exhaust, suspension work totalled $7721. Believe it or not these costs did not include the 500E bodywork conversion. No expense was spared to make this car mechanically right and it has been a very good runner for me over the past five years. It is a fun and reliable car to drive.

OMG! $20,000.00 in conversion cost and 500E body conversion was not included! That's what you may call "money no object" or "more money than....".

Your asking price is great. The engine and suspension alone would cost that much if it is in the condition you claimed.

Good luck to you and congrats to the new owner.

It may have been cheaper to actually buy a 500E!

Looks nice!

I think it would have been less expensive to buy an actual 500e. Either way sounds sweet, gotta post some more pics though. Price is good enough that I'm considering it pending further pictures/info.

That's what I had in mind. Also, I was thinking of Dr. No's 500E that was listed a while ago in the $20k range, IIRC. But, the current asking price for this one is very good even if it's not an orig 500e. I would be much inclined to grab it if I didn't already have a 500e.

Thanks for the words. Pics when I get home tonight. I have enjoyed this car and it has been very dependable. It is with trepidation that I switch to the W140 as the W124 is such a reliable vehicle. The sweet looks of the 500E curves are very nice. My mechanic has looked over this car and a recent tune up with new plugs, recent new wires, new front brakes and the belt tensioner are all big plusses in my book. It does need new rubber and a new headliner but minor things when looking at this car at this price. Any specific pics you guys want to see?

engine pics

sorry they are upside down. I am open to offers and PPIs vs letting you speak with the mechanic who did the most recent work on my car and checked it out. Not interested in trades. Thanks.

With $20,000.00 in conversion cost, they forgot to replace the strut mount. Refrain from using/driving your car until you replace the strut mount.

+1 on the strut mount, it's @ the bitter edge of it's life...

Did the diff get changed or still 2.24??

Any photos of the process/when the car was in pieces??

The diff is the original one with the 400E. Anyone interested in this car? It does need to go so throw some offers my way, you never know. Too many cars in the driveway!

The car does not have ASR or SLS. Look at the photo of the ABS pump, it's the non-ASR style, and no 400E/E420 imported to the USA had SLS (that was a Euro-only option). I don't think it has heated seats either but I can't tell for sure without either more photos of the console, or the VIN number.

Still a neat car though!
